How these compare to the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro 250 ohm ? Are they worthy to replace those ? I got the hifiman 4xx but the dt 990's are still holding up well against them and I use them both so I wonder if these 6xx are worthy of an upgrade from both of those ? So what you think ? Also, as a possible upgrade from my 990's are the AKG 712pro, so if anyone has all of those or at least some experience with some of them maybe can clear this for me and others with the same question. Thank you !

Depends if you are looking for an 'upgrade' or a different sound signature. The 990 is a typical V signature and the 6xx will come in closer to the 4xx (neutralish tendencies with a slight midbass bump and sub-bass rolloff). All in all, most of these headphones are in a similar category as far as technicalities are concerned. The HD6xx just has greater recognition in the headphone world. I would consider looking at other areas to better your chain (amp choice, dac, etc) before itching for more headphones in the same tier. Also, any of these answers are contingent on what you use your headphones for and the type of music you listen to.

Thanks for answering first ! Well, I use them with an aune x1s and a fiio e10k when on the go or an lg v20. Of course, aune is the better thing of them. The music I listen to is usually psytrance ambiental stuff, like carbon based lifeforms, suduaya, solar fields and others in that genre. So i always search for better airy sound sort of, to have all things feel like space around. Soundstage is important so thats why I am asking for 712proor 650's as from reviews they seem better at that but... Dont know. The 4xx are very acurate but somehow 990s seem more enjoyable for this sort of music so i dont know anymore now :/

Hey, honestly do you see a huge difference between e10k and aune? I am typically fine with a pair of 30$ earbuds so I don't have a picky ear. Can you personally hear the more than 3 times increase in price? Is it worth it?

Hello,... well, is not a 3X increase for sure, you can't compare like that. Rather let's do a good ol' car analogy. Say, if your computer motherboard is your dacia logan, the fiio e 10k would be a mercedes c classe and the aune x1s a bentley. All 3 get you from A to B, though all the road experience is different.
In my opinion, you don't need all the time an X1s, as it's an overkill.... like you won't drive to supermarket with a bentley unless you're an idiot of some sort. You will go either with the logan or the c classe and take the bentley out when you want something else... something higher tier and better experience.
Btw I'm not a fan of either of these cars, they just came out like that, you can replace any brand with a similar in the same class... say mitsubishi colt or nissan micra instead of logan, bmw series 3 or alfa romeo giulietta instead of mercedes C and some cadillac or spaceship enterprise instead of that bentley. Whatever you like... you can even replace the lower class with a barrel full of cabbage for example.
Now, back at it..... the aune x1s is ultimately better than the e10k, not 3x better.... but how you exactly quantify the difference between a mercedes c clase and a bentley continental ? Or a german sheppard and a wolf for that matter ? Is unquantifiable and any difference, small as it might be, is in fact infinite. But here the difference is obvious.
The X1s will give you more goose bumps, if you feed it with flac files, than an e10k. If you use it for gaming and ocasional listen..... an e10k is good enough, but if you want more and tend towards ultimate, then an x1s makes sense. The x1s is the wolkswagen phaeton, while the e10K is your fancy commuter bmw 3 series. Now you judge which one has more style and think of why the phaeton is 3x more the price.
The X1s is superior to fiio E10k when listening to high end music and well recorded stuff, there is no comparison there. But if you feed them both with mp3's the difference won't be that big. If you listen to youtube, the same, no that big of a difference ! If you play games with it, the same, you don;t need the x1s for that, the E10k is enough.
So, back at cars stuff.... you need several of them to cover all purposes, ideally all the 3 classes i mentioned above. But if you need just a practical one and some style, then the mercedes C class may be enough, like the fiio. Otherwise, the x1s is always the better, though you will only hear the big difference if you properly use it. The e10k will stop sounding better at some point, after youtube and ordinary mp3 in best quality, you will see a small improvement in flac but if you put the same flac on x1s, it keeps scaling up and will improve your experience drastically as it will make your headphones shine brighter, make them do the sounds and ranges that the e10k can't do. Is all about that little more, those fine details for which you need those expensive headphones. The X1s will make them sound like they worth it.
So, hopefully you understood something. It took me some time and some money spent to get that properly :) I basically use the E10k for gaming, internet listening, youtube, carry around... as general purpose and the X1s when wanna really listen to some music. I hope that makes sense, that in my opinion, you need both or some sort of a similar setup.

Didn't expect this lol, thx a lot, really well put.
I guess I will just opt out for something in schiit Fulla 2's range since it should sound better than e10k and will last longer but does not cost as much as the x1s.

:)Well, you don't always know what you will endup writing when is 1 am and can't sleep.
That looks like a good choice untill you're ready for a deathstar :). I was thinking at that time at fulla 2 too but it wasn't locally available.

At my job we have a few audiophiles and we did a few listening test between the akg7xx Senn. HD 600,hd6xx and HD 700. DAC/AMP fulla,O2 massdrop and e and schiit stack. All four can drive the 650 decently. The O2 and schiit stack drives the 650 well on high gain. The fulla 2 does a good job. If you put the fulla2 on max setting vs the O2 on low gain the dac on the fulla outshines it. A lot less distortation. I would suggest get the the HD650 if you will invest in a DAC/AMP and don't believe the hype if your not listening to classical music the full a2 is more than enough. If you are trying to kill your eardrums listening to classical get a setup with high gain. If you just want a great headset that can be driven anywhere get the HD 700 and you don't need DAC/AMP at all. As for sound that is so subjective. There are noticeable differences in the driver's between sennheiser and AKG. My ears believe the akg has less color than the sennheiser. But if you like warmth and close soundstage you will prefer Sennheiser over the AKG. If you want a more even sound then the AKG. I know fan boys will fry me but the HD 700 and akg or more a reference headphone than the 6xx. I hope that helps
