A $200 converter from digital format to another.
Can someone explain why this isn't utter nonsense?

Head-Fi Impressions Thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/655338/matrix-x-spdif-impressions
In for one, bridges a serious gap for me so I can get a clean AES/EBU out from PCs and Macs.

These are 250 Direct from Matrix, 280 on Ebay, and 250 on Amazon. End drop rate is killer. Don't need one, but I may have to get on this train :)

Has anyone tried this and compared it to the Peachtree Audio X1?
bilicn2Yes, and also compared to the NuForce U192S if anyone has had both to compare. Thanks in advance.

Jeff_from_MichiganNot to put down Matrix, but I have NuForce U192S and it's essentially the same device. If AES/EBU output is not absolute must in your setup and you are not into aluminum milled cases NuForce device is 3 times cheaper.
Talking about circuity the clock in Matrix is of much more quality with two low jitter crystal oscillators instead of one cheap crystal in U192S. Though, you probably wouldn't hear any difference unless using multi-thousand dollar setup. Matrix is more comparable to updated version of Stello U3 by April Music both in circuity and the build quality and probably betters Stello in sound.
I uploaded some pictures for you to compare.
