The bolt sits at just the right angle in a pocket. The texture of the grip part of the pen is comfortable. Quality of the pen glide and writing comfort is great.
The only small (temporarily) unappealing thing is that the bolt squeaks a bit with the friction of the metal when you first use the pen a couple times. It does go away after a while. I recommend fidgeting with the bolt for a couple hours to get rid of that. That's my only gripe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ great pen 👍🏻
Using this for my every day pen working from home. Love the bolt action mechanism to use the pen. No issues with ink consistency when writing and no issue with smudging. Works great writing left handed as well. Possibly one of my favorite pens ever.
Very tasteful look. Lightweight and well balanced. Feels nice in hand. Barrel not too thick like other bolt action pens. Action is a bit gritty which does detract from the fidget factor joy.
Update: Action has smoothed out over a few weeks.... still not as smooth and authoritative as my Tactile Turn but easily my favorite pen at the moment. Absolute pleasure to write with. Weight, balance, size all perfect for me. I find most bolt action pens a little to hefty, thick or off balance for my taste.... this one gets it just right. Included ink cartridge very nice.... deep black color, no smearing and very smooth. Very much like a Pilot G2 if you are a fan.
The Nitecore TP31 feels solid, not too heavy thanks to the aluminum construction. The bolt action is slightly gritty out of the box, but works well. The tolerance could have been a little finer as the bolt itself feels a tad tooo lose in the barrel. The clip is nice and tight.
The pen has a nice feel to it when writing. The grip section has enough texture to it that you’ll grip it securely, but not so much that it feels abrasive. Perhaps a slight tendency to be heavier in the back end. I prefer the balance points slightly closer to the tip. But all in all it doesn’t affect the writing performance. Had it been the titanium version you’d probably notice it more.
The included Schneider gel cartridge is a bit too broad for my personal taste, but writes well and is easy to find in stores.
Price vs performance? Well I’d give it a five star rating.
I have had this pen for a while now and have been using it as part of my travel EDC. I feel more comfortable knowing that I have a glass break on the back of my pen when in the back of an Uber or Lyft. I have yet to break any glass with it though, so who knows if the confidence I feel while carrying it is false or not.
Aesthetically, It is black. I love black. While I knew it was this way before purchase, I wish the text was more discrete. A stealthy all-black pen would be great.
As to the writing of the pen, it is very smooth. I tend to prefer my Parker Jotter for writing, and I carry that in my work bag for any long form notes or official signatures. I would rank it above the Fisher Space Pen when it comes to how it writes.
Overall, it does a great job. If they could make it write like the Parker Jotter and had more discrete branding, I would give it a 5/5.
Like any other fine EDC pens out there, this is one feels solid, looks slick, and is functional. I use the butt almost daily for opening boxes! However, the stock springs/bolt-action feels very scratchy. After lubing and tuning, it becomes quite bearable.
Great pen with a fun action. The bolt action engages smoothly and makes writing slightly more interesting. The pen's construction is quite nice with a solid durable feel. The included ink cartridge works well right from the start.
