I got Peacock Audio (PA) to send me a demo set once I saw this hit Drop. Props to their customer service for sending me a full set with all the packaging and accessories so I get the full user-experience which is definitely important here. Tl;dr first: The Peacock P1 is a good IEM with classic V-shaped tuning and dynamic driver sound that doesn't quite manage to stand out sound-wise in this price range in the ultra competitive Chi-fi market but the overall package, build quality, easy-to-like tuning makes it a worthy consideration for anyone looking for a entry~mid-fi IEM. (Provided, you like the over the top aesthetics of course.) Impressions and pictures below. (Apologies for the poor photo quality.) Packaging and accessories:
  • - The P1 comes in a small, black box that showcases the IEMs with the the PA logo. Inside you'll find the case and other accessories held between layers of hard paper cards and foam. It's not premium but it's clean and doesn't feel cheap either.
  • - Stock cable is nice - Soft, good handling and low microphonics. The memory wire is a little bit long, so you might consider cutting it for your own use. Description says it's silver-copper alloy. I can't attest to that but it is a good quality cable and you'll be happy with it. Also included is a BT4.1 cable. I tested it, it's functional and a convenient addition.
  • - Carrying case is faux leather with good quality and size. You should have no problems carrying both cables along with a few other accessories with your IEMs. PA also provides 2 cable ties which are always nice to have. (note: they're button, not magnetic as per product page)
  • - Only 3 sizes of silicone tips are included. They’re fine but a few more options would’ve been nice.

Build quality and fit:
  • - Build quality is very nice. PA advertises German egger Resin and honestly, they are as good as any IEM I’ve owned at any price point using this material; No bubbles or rough edges anywhere.
  • - It’s actually kind of big for a single 7mm driver (You can see it beside my Moondrop A8 below) but it fits nicely. There’s a vent hole for the dynamic driver so isolation is not perfect but it’s good enough.
  • - Let’s be real though, you’re here because the thing looks like a walking pinata. I didn’t get to choose as this is a demo unit so I probably got the most flamboyant combo (Juicy + Rainbow) possible. Although this isn’t my aesthetic of choice, the P1s are hand-painted and the level of craftsmanship here is impressive.

Sound:
  • - I saw one video refer to this as soft-V and I disagree. I use the ETY ER4 as my neutral IEM baseline and these are a classic V-shape to my ears. That's not a bad thing necessarily, just a matter of preference.
  • - Tonality wise, Bass is the highlight here. PA does a good job not to overtune the sub-bass so you get a nice balance between impact and air that doesn't get in the way of the mids coming through. Mids are recessed as per V-shaped tuning but not overly so. Treble is where the P1 falls a bit short. It's not sibilant (I love treble though, so your mileage may vary), but too peaky. My biggest issue is the rise from mids to treble is not smooth enough causing some female vocals (I used Susan Wong as benchmark) to sound a somewhat unnatural.
  • - Resolution and detail retrieval is good. On par with the better IEMs in this range (Moondrop KPE, TFZ King Pro, Dunu Titan6 etc.)
  • - Separation and layering is better in the lower-mid frequencies. Good treble separation is harder to do on a slow dynamic driver and it shows here. The strings in Suite Espanola, Asutrias for example just don't have enough speed or clarity; The fortissimo appregio (really loud chord played rapidly) part in particular sounds almost messy. It's not unbearable but I've heard better for the price.
  • - Soundstage is fine. I don't think an IEM in this price range has ever wow'd me in this department and I don't expect to be.

Final Comments:
  • - First thing to consider is how much you like the design. If you love it and aesthetics of audio gear is important to you then honestly there's not too many options out there without having to explore more premium models. PA treated the P1 like a work of art and they delivered.
  • - If getting the best sound for your buck is your primary focus, I don't see a good reason to get this over something like the tinhifi P1 or BGVP DM6 unless you vehemently prefer the dynamic driver sound over BAs/Planars. They are just stronger on a technical level.
  • - Compared to other popular Chi-Fi DD IEMs: TFZ King Pro, Dunu Titan6, Moondrop KPE/KxxS, most of them are a little cheaper but not by much; The P1 takes much longer to make, which justifies the extra cost. I picked these 3 because compared to the P1, they are all about as strong technically but represent different tuning styles.
  1. King Pro represents the closest tuning to the P1 which is also V-shaped but goes a bit hotter on the treble; However, It's also not as peaky.
  2. Dunu Titan6 is a warmer IEM with impactful lows, forward mids and slightly recessed highs. I would say its resolution is slightly behind the others on this list but it's so minor that it can probably be attributed to the human bias/track used.
  3. Moondrop KPE/KxxS is Harman target based and a contrast to the P1. Slightly recessed lows with emphasis on smooth mid-treble tuning with gorgeous vocals.

What the heck, this gets cheaper and cheaper every time! Anyways, I got a pair with the "Mystery" color, and it is quite beautiful. My only gripe is that comfort isn't quite there for me. Probably just my ear shape being weird, feelsbadman. Sound is decent enough, though I understand what one reviewer was saying about the treble timbre being a bit off. Also, there was one track I listened to in particular that was definitely sibilant to my ears, but that hasn't been the norm so far.

FR for those curious. Sorry for the low quality pic, it's the best they had in their product page:

Seems like a typical V shape for this price range. Sub bass boost, recessed mids, big treble energy and some spikes up top. Will def wait to hear impressions from other folks.

Why would they showcase the ugliest colorway when all the other options are stunning?? Also, for the people spamming links to other vendors, it mentions you get $30 off at checkout, so they're actually $170 here. Would love to get some more impressions of these, cuz damn these look beautiful...

EliNThere's an FR graph here, for anyone interested. Looks pretty v-shaped: emphasis on the sub-100hz region, dip in the mids, 5k peak, huge valley at 10k. I'm worried about that treble...

Who's getting Glorious? I wonder if that's glued on. I could go for the black & gold, but not with those jewels on them.
