I just got my Rega. I'm getting a medium to high pitch motor sound that is quite loud (even with no record playing). I'd describe it as sort of a warble that oscillates maybe twice a second with a frequency of maybe 2kHz. Anyone else getting something like this?

Newb question. I have been thinking of getting a turntable to convert my extensive vinly collection to digital. I tried to use my old Yamaha turntable (ages old) with a analog to digital converter and was disappointed with the results generally and especially with the clipping. Has anyone used this for vinly conversion and what are your thoughts on the turntable?

HogieI haven't used this for a/ d conversion but it should be perfectly fine. There are steps you can take to avoid clipping. Ensure the vinyl is as clean as possible to avoid pops and clicks(as much as cleaning the vinyl will help in this regard). Turn down the gain on your input device. Consider recording in 24 bit as this will give you a greater dynamic range than recording in 16bit thus giving you more headroom to avoid clipping.

Haven’t tried the P1, but I have a P3 and absolutely love it. Rega makes high quality turntables.

I don't know turntables, but am looking to get something entry-level.
The monoprice table is very well priced, but, like I said, I don't know what drawbacks it has compared to something in this price range.
Is the monoprice crap? What more are you getting with something like this? For someone brand new, do you think it is worth going for something in this price range, or is something cheaper okay to start?

Planning on running it into a Denon S650H and through a pair of Micca RB42s (when I can get them).

t0rkLooks like that Denon has a phono jack. If you decide to go with the rega just make sure you don’t use that one. The rega has a non-defeatable phono preamp built in. Honestly it’s my only qualm with this table!

The Rega P1 and the Pro-Ject Carbon Debut are great turntables, but there are other good buys for getting back into vinyl, too. The Music Hall MMF, particularly the 2.3, may be a good choice for some, the Fluance RT85, the Technics SL 1500, the Cambridge Audio Alva TT, and you can customize the Orbit series. LP Gear often has custom stylus, belt, or cartridge upgrades. But this Rega P1 either with the cartridge from Rega, or with an upgraded cartridge that fits the fixed anti-skate profile is a great deal. I have TTs from Music Hall, Audio-Technica, Denon, and Sony, but the Rega would make a great gift.

$400 gets you a damned fine TT--you are right in that completely. And Rega does make some of the best tone arms and TTs. So at $400 this one, a Pro-Ject, an Orbit, a Fluant, even an Audio-Technica with a good cartridge and phono stage will sound amazing through good speakers ranging from Micah to Klipsch to Martin Logan.

Coming from someone that knows turntables, this is a good modern turntable for the money. Just a pity that it doesn't have anti-skating and an Audio Technica cartridge, but I think that only comes in at the higher price points in the market.

LuckyLuke575This has an at cartridge, it's basically identical to the AT3600, also when replacing the cartridge, you can save 50 bucks and just get the audio technica.

This is a great buy. I know it's not much off, but it's a good price for a Rega. It's better than a Debut Carbon. It has lower wow and flutter, better speed accuracy, and is set up better (near perfect) out of the box. The cartridge is better too. It can be upgraded later on. If you are looking for a new turntable in this price range, this is a great choice.

The real question for those of us in the US is - this or the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon? Same price here, Rega stuff is rarely available though so this is interesting.
