The SMSL M500 mk2 has great sound quality with low noise and a high SNR. The outputs include XLR connectors, although there is only one headphone plug which is unbalanced. It has a remote, which is a nice feature, and the remote allows you access the menu and additional features such as sound color, which is supposed to create a tube sound, or rich sound, and so on. Although I do not hear a big difference between these, and you cannot replace actual tubes with this feature, it is a nice tweak for the sound. I also like the ability to switch the volume knob on or off. This is a nice feature for anyone who is not using a preamp with a volume control.
I find that this DAC is comparable to my mytek liberty what sadly died a few months ago. It employs a similar chipset and has the same sound signature as my beloved mytek. All in all a great unit at a great price. My only wish is that it had a 12 volt input to use a linear power supply ( see photo below).
