Ideal for placing at the center of your hi-fi system, the SMSL SU-8 boasts high-end DAC features at a surprisingly low price. It’s built with many of the current specs you might expect to see in a more expensive model, including dual ES9038Q2M DAC chips, an xCORE-200 XMOS USB audio solution, and dual XLR outs for a fully balanced output Read More
I've owned this DAC for 4 years almost daily and have been very satisfied with it. Never gave me any issues, very solid build, simple, does what it was designed for, couldn't recommend it enough. Only thing I upgraded was the USB cable. Have this hooked up to my DROP+THX AAA 789 and a Loxjie P20.
The SMSL SU-8 is a great little DAC. Despite its small size, it offers basically anything you might need or even want. The fact that it offers balanced output at such a low price sets it apart from the competition, although this has recently become less of a differentiator. I quite like the inclusion of a remote, as it makes the DAC great for a living room setup - which is exactly how I am using it. One small note regarding compatibility with TVs: unfortunately the SU-8's optical input seems not to be compatible with LG webOS TVs.
This would’ve been my endgame dac for quite some time if it had BT capabilities. It’s a perfect Dac otherwise and I’m glad I bought it. However, I do know that there are other BT dacs and dac-amps out there now so I now have the Topping DX7 Pro DacAmp. I’d definitely buy this again if I had a ise case for it though.
I am honestly not sure where else you could spend the same amount of money and get the same quality and options. Not only does it have a great linear dac option but if you have a set of boring headphones it has a bunch of sound profiles like tube warm and other signature sounds to make an old set of headphones sound new again
