Hey guys. Is it possible to connect speakers (unbalanced) and a headphone amp (balanced) to it at the same time and be able change the sound output simply using a remote?

Placed an order for the AMP and DAC. Received two poorly packaged boxes with damage. Opened the package to reveal two amps and no DAC. Not happy at all.

I have the original Jotunheim with balanced inputs (as well as the HD650 & HE500 with re-terminated XLR connectors) and have been very interested in hearing a fully balanced system. The SU-8 looked like a very cost effective way to check that out. In addition to running a complete balanced system for headphone listening I also have the SU-8 SE outputs feeding my Schiit Loki and then on to my NAD C 326BEE integrated amp for my 2 channel speaker system. So yes, the SU-8 is the perfect DAC for my setup. The SU-8 replaced the very good sounding Schiit Modi MB that I relocated to another system. In comparison the SU-8 is not as warm sounding as the Modi MB and perhaps with a tiny bit less bass. The clarity and detail of the SU-8 is excellent sounding for both the balanced headphone path as well as the SE path for my speaker system (of course I can tailor the speaker sound through the Loki). I haven't spent much time comparing the XLR vs SE sound coming out of my Jotunheim. During the brief comparative listening sessions I did perform I haven't heard a night-and-day difference between XLR and SE. It does sound quieter (black background) and it does have slightly better imaging. These improvements are certainly welcome and do make balanced my primary listening method on this setup, The XLR connection does output considerably more power than the SE but I already realized that with the Modi MB SE connection when using my re-terminated XLR headphones. I bought my SU-8 directly from SMSL. I have read that some units purchased through Massdrop have experienced issues and no customer support from Massdrop or SMSL. That sucks, fortunately for me everything has been working flawlessly since purchasing my unit back in March. So far I am extremely happy with this DAC both from a functionality basis but also in the sound quality and sound tailoring capabilities. Highly recommended.

Based on measurements and balanced output option and not-too-high price yeah, it is a good choice. Unless you have the money to go for something like the Topping D70 or the time to wait out and see what Grace Designs comes up with for their SDAC enhanced balanced edition (which happens to be what I'm doing). Heard that JDS is coming up with a good dac too, but do not have enough information to guess if it'll be balanced or otherwise

They’re having trouble shipping It to people who’ve already join the drop so my guess is not until next year. I think there was a post that said this is the last drop of the year for the 789.

Bought both SU-8 and SH-8 locally. Worth the upgrade from my Schiit stack. Love the remote!

Please improve your method of shipping, my package was lost and marked as delivered when it was not even in the same Postcode as my address... Waited over a month for nothing.

Received mine several days ago. My gripe is how Shenzhen Audio ships the unit. They basically ship it in one of those Tyvek shipping envelopes. Not the best way to ship electronics, especially international. It obviously took some abuse on its way to my house as evidenced by my box. The box the unit comes in has its own soft styrofoam inner packing fitted to the device, remote and cables, but the appropriate way would be to put the boxed unit into a shipping box that is again insulated with some sort of shipping insulating material. Hooked it up no problem, put batteries in the remote (Note: Remote does not come with batteries) pressed C to initiate communication with the DAC and all seems to be good do far. Hope to get plenty of time using it over the next week or so. Interested in hearing how others who are receiving theirs got shipped (outer shipping box or just the Tyvek) and condition.
