A burly diver with impressive specs, the Swiss Legend Abyssos is built for adventures. This 46-millimeter watch boasts a 1,000-meter water resistance rating, which means you can take it diving no problem Read More
Solid deal rating for what this is.
Sapphire crystal, gigantic and robust construction, and an STP movement. It’s a clone of the selitta sw200, so it has the extra jewel missing in the eta and isn’t as susceptible to hand winding issues. The movement itself is around $60-$90 online, so I may buy this to wear and beat up and transplant the movement.
Also interesting - the stp movement is only 4.6mm thick, and this watch is 19mm!
great price at $170 if you understand what you’re getting and that’s what you want. Good drop.
I just had this watch.
If you can forgive this huge size, I think it is a good product considering the price.
Do not use this watch for the season when you wear long sleeves.
The rubber strap is also quite thick, but the fit is relatively good.
I have no complaints about the STP1-11 movement.
If you expect waterproof performance, you should buy another brand.
I would say this about that:
Many years ago I researched Swiss Legend and came to the conclusion they were owned by, or were a division of Invicta. It seems that's more difficult to prove today, but unless someone knows otherwise, I still believe there's a connection between the two companies--direct or indirect (they're out of Florida, by the way). I don't have a problem that; Invicta makes decent, inexpensive watches, assuming you can make your way past their appearance. That said, this watch isn't at all bad looking.
I see the usual chorus of concerns have been raised over dimensions (hopefully that group's girlfriends are more forgiving on that score). Really it seems about the right size for a watch that (in theory) would be strapped over a wetsuit and remain legible 3,000 feet under the waves--in that application, this watch might be a better choice than that Submariner you purchased last summer at the outlet store in Geneva?
And what inexpensive watch drop would be complete without someone pointing out this inexpensive watch isn't capped with a genuine Sapphire crystal? To them I say, neither are 90% of my Seiko divers, most of which cost a lot more than this watch, and none of which are scratched, cracked, or oozing their innards. To my mind, whatever the crystal is made of, it's good enough--the manufacturer knows what it's doing, and this isn't the first watch they've built. Lack of a sapphire crystal is absolutely, positively, a non-issue for a watch at this price point.
I also see someone using the nonstandard lug and strap arrangement as a deal-breaker--to which I say, that's your loss. Plenty of watches are made that way--it's an integrated design feature, and in this case, it doesn't look bad and seems functional. True, you won't be able to swap out the supplied strap for your favorite Hello Kitty ZULU (sometimes life is unfair that way). Still if that's the only concern, I noticed the watch was also sold on a stainless bracelet at one time (on Swiss Legend's website) and that bracelet might still be available under their Accessories tab?
The things that caught my attention are: this watch is almost certainly a discontinued model--not a big deal, just pointing it out. The other glaring issue is that MD is claiming the useless (unless you actually have a use for it) case is a Pelican case. After comparing the case shown in the drop and the closest, comparable case on Pelican's site, I'm willing to say MD's claim is bullshit--the included case is just a cheap Pelican knock-off. As I've said, I'm not a big fan of cases in general, and I object to paying for any case that may have diverted funds away from the watch, no matter how immaterial. To my my mind, a second strap in another color, would have been far more useful/interesting.
I hate the black one, but would not be ashamed to wear to wear the stainless version. As a mater of fact, if I wasn't so damn preoccupied with Seikos (read: narrow-minded), I'd probably buy one of these myself. Hopefully you don't suffer from that issue, and you'll do the smart thing and pick one of these up before they're gone--I doubt they'll be back again!
@Watchyoutalkingabout
They purchased all...Lucien Piccard, Swiss Legend, Ben and Sons, Cabochon, Elini Barokas and Red Line. All are still owned by Jomashop as far as I know.
Couple of additional points:
A) I take back that earlier bit where I said I would wear this watch--no fucking way!
B) Check out this video to see why (warning: not for the faint of hart)

RayFThat skull ring reminds me of The Phantom’s ring. When the movie came out in the 90s, some fast food restaurant had a promotion where you got one of those skull rings, crafted from the finest lead and cadmium metal you could mine in China. That YouTube video just gave me flashbacks.
WatchyoutalkingaboutHad a similar effect on me!
Call me me picky, but a long time ago I made a decision never to buy a watch (or a used car) from any guy who reminded me of a bad, Made-For-TV movie...
I receive this watch today. At first look, it look big and heavy but it actually is light and very comfortable and of good quality. The Pelican case is huge but well worth it as an item with the watch. The watch is keeping great time, looks great, feels great, the lime is great but have not been in the sun enough today. Overall a good price for a great watch with great features. Loving it.
wizzardp1Mine also arrived today and I have to agree on the case; maybe not a genuine Pelikan but a lot sturdier than I thought it would be. Very smooth crown action, nice sweep on the second hand and, overall, a very nice quality watch. Big yes but it does wear smaller, as others have said previously. Colour me impressed, especially given the price.
I’ve added a few photos but I’m no photographer.
I have the original swiss movement version of theis watch. It's beefy but wears a little thinner because of the domed caseback. Sappphitek is Swiss Legend's version of a sapphire coated mineral crystal. This is a good price for a 1000 meter dive watch.
Ok...I just bought one, in stainless steel (not the black). The price, specs and, perhaps most importantly, the fun factor were just too much to hold me back. Wish me luck :-)
Pierre071I was referring to the finish on the case, not the bracelet (still silicone). It may be possible to find a bracelet but I’ve not seen one. Perhaps direct from Swiss Legend?
