I have these and I found them to be ok. They sounded like my Shure 535s. Just for fun I bought a Linsoul Ballanced cable off of Drop and WOW did they come alive. I hooked it into my A&K 100mk2 and the sound was amazing. I've got the ISine20 with Cypher cable, Klipsch X11s and several others. The W60s sound the best. Difference between Ballanced and Unbalanced was night and day. I could have bought the verse with ALO and BT verse cable for $649 from Adorama. They still have used which I bet are returns for $609.
RotorooterOkay you’re going to need to give more information on this: what was the balanced vs. SE output of your amp?? I don’t want to single you out, but it’s really horrible for the hobby that this myth keeps being pushed on Drop - your cables don’t make the difference you’re purporting they do.
I own Westone W40. I've been thinking of sending them off to get custom fitted shells. I'm wondering who can hear a difference in a universal from the same company but at $500 price point vs $1000? I dont think my ears are that good. And, do I really like the kind of music that would demonstrate the difference in sound quality? Just my thoughts, not a knock against westone or those who love iems with 12 drivers.
Mc_365Not loading for me either, but you can try reaching out to them via their FB page - https://www.facebook.com/itsfitlab/
Kien is usually pretty responsive to emails, but keep in mind that Vietnam is dealing with COVID lockdowns.
I do not own the W80, nor have I ever listened to them. But, looking at the frequency response of these, and comparing to other IEMs that I own, I would say these will be very dark, with very limited treble… I would suggest doing your research as these are quite expensive and I suspect there are quite a few superior IEMs at this price…
Sound quality of the Shure SE836 is unreal, magical, pure bliss. My go to line of headphones are the Sennhiesers HD line (600/650/700/800). These headphones have massive drivers, require a quality amp/dac setup/aftermarket cable, and are not portable but to me it is worth it for the unbelievable sound and soundstage they put out. I have never been a huge fan of iems or earbuds aside from convenience because they will never deliver the wide-open soundstage, layering, or detail that a pair of studio headphones will…. until now.
The soundstage and layering of the SE836 is unbelievable. If you could not feel them in your ears you’d swear you had an open back pair of over ear headphones on. The spatial soundstage here is unreal. There isn’t a word to describe how large and spacious it is. There is so much open airiness to these and again the layering and separation, dreamlike. They are incredibly balanced, crystal clear treble, perfectly present mids and the bass. I am not a fan of bass heavy anything, the bass should be replicated naturally and not give you a headache. The bass here is deep, very detailed, and punches deeply when the song calls for it. Warm, beautiful, open. Not a detail is missed, nothing is rolled off, nothing is overemphasized. Even at low volumes these things project an insane amount.
geologisttimI agree with you 100%. They are awesome earphones. I have a pair of Zeus with balanced cables, and they don't sound as good as the SE836. Using Chord Mojo as DAC\AMP.
Don't forget they also moved to a lesser cable and dropped the Bluetooth one out completely. On the upside, they are more expensive (at least compared to the 599 you could routinely get them for at adorama). I hate companies that pretend to be serious about an msrp then always sell them for 60% off. These were never really 1500 phones...
I think your being a little hard here on Westone. Any company that can put eight drivers into a tiny Earpiece is not what I call a zero Technology company. I think many Musicians would disagree with you. They have other lines of IEMs too that are held in very high esteem.
