The Fostex T50RP is a modder’s dream—and Zach Mehrbach, the man behind ZMF Headphones, is pushing the T50RP drivers to their full potential. The second iteration of the company’s solid-wood and bass-port-adjustable closed headphones, the ZMF x Vibro MK II is available here (and only here) in the exclusive Purple LTD finish. This special edition features purpleheart ear cups fitted with dual cable entry points, drivers wired with OCC copper, and adjustment risers to help you find the perfect fit. Plus, the lambskin ear pads and thickly padded cowhide leather headband promise superior comfort during long listening sessions.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of cables: an XLR cable or a single-ended ⅛-inch cable with a ¼-inch adapter. You’ll also have the option to swap the default headband and ear pads for a Pilot Pad headband and protein leather ear pads. Finally, you can add a Pelican-style Seahorse Case for secure storage (+ $40) This drop is limited to 30 pairs of headphones. Each pair is one of a kind and made to order.
Though the Purple LTD is tuned the same as the other Vibro headphones, due to the differences in wood, listeners may find this version to be a bit faster and more substantial, with a more resounding sub-bass. An extremely hard, dense wood, purpleheart makes for a smooth, full sound with very natural decay. The soundstage is wider and deeper than in the MK I, and the treble and bass further extended—without becoming booming or exaggerated. By sealing the bass ports (three on each cup) with the included plugs, you can adjust the lower end by a few decibels to suit your taste.
