Many portable DACs out there but this took the cake for me due to it form factor. I manages to do a decent enough job for my CIEMs. Could not recommend it more. Only issue being that it was so small, its easy to lose if you're always on the go. I have mine permamently attached to my CIEMs now
These open up the sonics more (stereo image)
The bass sounds tighter, not so flobby.
Only downside is USB-C is a bit flimsy, wouldn't reccomend on a walk, but for home listening is beast.
My Apple 1st party adapter is outlasting this one. I’m not sure that the sound quality was any better on these over Apple adapter but thought it’d be more durable and more stylish looking. Turned out to just be more stylish looking. A loose connection developed in mine where I get inconsistent noise going through to my headphones.
The sound pressure is higher than when you insert the earphone directly into your smartphone.
I felt that the resolution was slightly increased.
I was a little disappointed because "MK2" came out soon after I bought this.
They worked well until one day the lightning connector broke. The main reason I got this was to have a more durable lightning dac than the apple one. I think it's more of a problem with lightning connectors in general. They're just not strong enough. I think I want a separate small dac with a replacable lightning to usb c or something next.
They're fine I guess, but don't behave well with my Pixel 2
It does as it's supposed to: gives you a headphone out where your USB-C port is. Sound quality and power output is nothing special.
They're stylish, assuming you're the type of person that likes the whole braided cable look. To be honest, I had my reservations after reading back through and noticing that it's a Realtek chip (which is what like every consumer laptop uses) I think I was right to have those reservations. They do as they're supposed to, but I don't think the sound quality justifies the premium price. Especially since, at least on the Pixel 2 that I had at the time, the dongle falls asleep or something if you leave it paused for more than like 30 seconds, meaning you have to unplug it and put it back in which I don't like having to do more than once a day.
I'd honestly recommend even the $10 Apple Dongle over this.
