The Alpina Alpiner Chronograph Automatic is a good balance of function and grace. On the functionality side, it’s got lumed hands and markers, a chronograph that tracks up to 12 hours, a date window, and a telemeter scale, which can be used to measure how far away a sound is—like a bolt of lightning or a gunshot. On the dressy side, it sports a polished case, angled lugs, and pronounced pushers that extend far from the stainless steel case to accentuate it. Also of note is the triangular red counterbalance on the seconds hand, evocative of the company’s logo. Alpina has outfitted the watch with an AL-750 movement, one with 25 jewels and a solid 46-hour power reserve.
