Product Description
The Shark from Artisan Cutlery definitely lives up to its name. Featuring an aerodynamic drop-point blade that measures nearly 4 inches, it looks like it could slice through water just as easily as it can boxes, packaging, and food Read More
I got the orange and blue coloration. Overall it is a good knife and visually pleasing.
Lockup and alignment are good. The deep carry clip is a nice addition and has good placement.
The blade shape is great for delicate and precise cutting with that razor sharp tip. It came with a great edge out of the box.
It is heavy for it's size in my opinion and the handle is thick. I find myself choosing slimmer knives for everyday carry over this one.
The deployment is very stiff for a flipper.
Knife was bought May 24th, was supposed to ship June 5th, actaully shipped June 22. Emailed Drop CS to find out where it was, twice I was told they are sending this up the chain to find out where the order was. Crickets. Knife arrives and it's the smaller version. 1707PS - 3 inch blade, not 3.9 inch. Drop or Artisan Cultrey pulled the old bait and switch. Could have gotten the right version of this knife from Blade HQ for roughly the same price in 3 days. What's the point of Drop again? Either way I won't be buying anything from either company again.
Received a knife with different hardware than what was shown in the advertisement. Did not like it.
Drop didn’t seem really concerned with correcting it.
DO NOT ORDER THIS KNIFE! THE VENDOR WILL SHIP THE SMALLER VERSION, NOT THE KNIFE DESCRIBED IN THE DROP! THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE AT LEAST FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR - THE OLD "BAIT AND SWITCH"!
Update - so I've had the full size Shark for about a month, obtained for $49.95 and three days shipping from Blade HQ. It replaces the Artisan Waistline as my EDC. It's a large knife, but I have large hands, so it works for any grip I use. Texturing in the black G10 scales is perfect - tacky, but not so sharp that it will take skin off. Detent is perfect - can't "throw" the blade open, but deploys rapidly with the (jimped) flipper tab. Narrower than the Waistline, rides well in the pocket. Like the "tooth" of the D2 steel blade. Overall, great knife for my puposes, just order it from Blade HQ, not Drop!
I really like this knife for an EDC. It is sharp and holds the edge well for my use. It sits low and thin in the pocket and is comfortable even in light shorts pockets. The action is smooth and feels sturdy, it hasn't loosened or tightened on its own even though I play with it while I am idle. The liner lock feel sturdy and doesn't wear out your fingers as some of them do. I really like the blue liners contrasting with the black handle, and the profile overall is comfortable for multiple hold styles.
Fit and finish on the handle is excellent. The only imperfection is the ridge between the center spacer and the liners is slightly higher on one side than the other, but I had to go looking for problems to find that.
The blade grind is fair to good, but not great. It is not symmetric to start. One side of the blade is nearly perfect with only some uneven softening of the edge to flat transition. The other side is not well ground. In addition to the same uneven softening of the transition, there is a notable valley near the tip which is concealed by the stone wash but is obvious to the touch and when playing the light over the blade, as the edge grind shows uneven there. The profile of the cutting edge is not even, with waves that you can feel if you run your fingertip down the cutting edge. The edge itself, while sharp, is not sharp enough for me to feel at all uncomfortable running a fingertip down the edge with enough pressure to feel the edge profile. I wouldn't do this with my Mcusta, which is my other go-to EDC.
Lovely, light, flickable knife that is sharp out of the box. Ambi pocket clip is a plus. Hard steel for tough work. Nice ergonomics, for a slender blade. Solid lock and liner lock is not too stiff for a lefty. Good value. Have not yet tried sharpening to 15* edge, but feel it would take it well and hold the edge. Shall update review I find otherwise.
