Should I return my SMSL DO100 and get this? The DO100 sounds great... I have trouble though with some clicking with the SCHIIT Audio Magni Heresy I have paired with it. Without it in the chain, no click. In the chain... 3 to 4 distinct tap/clicks at the beginning and end of every source, be it audio, video or even a windows sound test.
I already have the Sparkos ops-amps in my speaker amp... I imagine having one in the DAC would be crazy good sounding.
What of dual DAC chip though vs Single. This has a single 9038 and the SMSL has two. Only a couple of days to nab this DAC left.
I could return the LOKI MINI+, The Heresy and the DO100. That should cover the cost of this DAC even If I buy it elsewhere
Drop's description states that this unit has a "6.35-millimeter dual TRS jack for headphone monitoring", but the back of the unit clearly denotes that the L-R pair of quarter-inch jacks are a "preamp out", along side the RCA preamp out. TRS jacks are capable of carrying a balanced signal, a substitute for XLR jacks in devices with smaller I/O panels.
pixelpeerCheck IIWI on YT. He doesn't oversell everything he reviews, but raved about this unit. I got the BT version from Linsoul on the back of his review, paired it with his opamp suggestion, and at $380 for the package, I'm delighted!
I just received my Zen Can 6xx today, and the two discounts Drop are offering off their regular price ($50 off the amp and $40 off the DAC) cover the cost of the Sparkos opamp - making for a pretty tasty package I'd say x
Oh, BTW - the DAC really is magic anyway. I had it hooked up to a Geshelli E2 and it does things to cymbals that give me ASMR 😁
pixelpeerI just purchased the X8 XV111. For just over $400can (non-bluetooth) it's sooooo good. Great build and features. The volume pot/knob is nicer than my $1400 pre/power amp. I can't get over the smoothness and space put forward with this little gem. It's a steal. Swap op amps to the Sparkos or similiar and you have a $1000 killer.
