I would be thrilled for a cruelty-free (ergo leatherless) version of these!

It's okay. I'm glad you came to your senses and realized how you sounded complaining about earpads that can be replaced for $20. If you really own a pair of QC35, you should throw a pair of new earpads on them and enjoy the headphones...

B&O are like Beats - they look good, but they are very overpriced for what you actually get. Their signature sound isn't very good. You pay for the look and the design, not for the sound.

In a word, yes. I used to subscribe and just started again. They review a lot of gear and music, including some very expensive gear, but also including gear sold on and built for Massdrop. Some reviews I take with a grain of salt (cables, mainly), but that happens everywhere, and it could just be my hangups. The writing is excellent and they make their own measurements.

B&O is really overpriced junk like Bose, the proof is in the measurements as always. https://www.innerfidelity.com/images/BangOlufsenH6.pdf

Curious how these compare to Audio-Technica M50xBT in terms of:
  • Clarity of Base, Midrange, and Treble
  • Sound signature (frequency response)
  • Sound stage
Thank you!

I owned these for a few months, and I loved the sound. Probably the best sounding BT headphones I had owned. I couldn't get a comfortable fit, though, no matter how I tried. The circle earpads are what got me. The diameter front-to-back over my ear was just fine, but it wasn't enough top-to-bottom. This meant they were always resting on part of my ear—or at least squeezing it together. I ended up selling mine, and still miss the sound.

wristandfeetThis is not a direct answer to your question, but more of an overall opinion about B&O these days. I have had a fair amount of B&O equipment over the years, starting with my first stereo from them in 1995. The ones that you wave your hand in front of a glass door and it automatically opens; if anyone recalls those. It was actually made in Denmark at the time. That was one of the best made and best sounding pieces of audio equipment (for its size) that I have ever had. It has a ton of miles on it and still works to this day, although, I never use it anymore. I have since moved on to tube equipment, etc. Since those days, B&O has moved the majority of their manufacturing to China. That's not to imply that the Chinese made product is no good. It is good, but it is a sign as to where B&O has been going in my opinion. More to a "lifestyle". Isn't that Bose' term which I just stole from them? My personal thoughts, are that B&O is a much "higher end" version of Bose these days and I don't consider Bose high end at all. In the early days, B&O didn't have all of this more mass market product that they have today. The original B&O equipment was hardly affordable. Granted, they still have some stratospheric equipment that I believe is still made in Denmark, but not the "Lifestyle" stuff that has flooded the market these days. I realize that $299, much less $160 is still not cheap for headphones, but they charge these prices, because they can. And truthfully, it is well made stuff for the most part. People still tend to think of B&O as "high end", like Bose, which it's anything but high end. Except for maybe the B&O stuff that only the ultra wealthy can afford. I can't speak of Audio-Technica as I've never owned anything from them, but they make some quite expensive headphones also. Overall, I have only heard good things about AT. Like a lot of audio equipment, a large portion of it boils down to individual taste/preference/price. In my opinion, I believe that Byerdynamic headphones are hard to beat for their price as one of the many alternatives. However, if folks are set on these B&O headphones, then there is no reason they should pass them up. Please keep in mind that my opinions are only mine and are in no way meant to disparage B&O or the folks that truly enjoy Bose and or B&O. I still use some of the B&O portable speakers myself to this day. I just wanted to give some real world thoughts about B&O after having a fair amount of it over the years. I even had some Bose equipment back in the 80's. My thoughts on audio equipment have always been, that if the individual is happy with their purchase and like the sound, that's all that matters! It's not what I or anyone else thinks about it. Cheers!
too bad they had to use animal products. Otherwise I'd be interested in these.

I owned multiple pairs of H6 over the years, and have yet to jump on any B&O Bluetooth headphones because they don't sound as good as the H6. It's a shame they've discontinued it. Let's hope Massdrop will bring in more B&O drops and perhaps even resurrect the H6 with a special edition someday.

If that's true, I'd love to do a comparison at their store again. Thanks for the tip. H9i sounds different via cable vs Bluetooth, and with or without ANC on. Which setting sounds like the H6?

The price is great versus what they typically go for elsewhere ($279+), but these cans are all show and no go. The “lamb skin” doesn’t wear well at all and rapidly stains and discolors, especially with the dyed varieties. And I’m sorry, but the sound is just not very good. There are loads of cans you can buy wired that sound *way* better than these with no amplification needed, and even as Bluetooth headphones go they’re average at best, with muddy bass and distortion on the highs. The price is nice, and they look nice, but that’s all your getting with the H4: looks. And the looks you’ll be getting to anyone who knows better is a chuckle at how much you spend for such mediocre cans.
What cable do you prefer over the standard?

Nothing here to recommend them over a pair of Bose QuietComforts or the equivalent Sony product--and both of those offer active noise cancelling. I bought a pair of Bose QCs more than a year ago and use them everyday for everything from music on my phone or computer, to watching TV, to drowning out my girlfriend/worst nightmare. As a mater of fact, I just purchased a second pair for her birthday--now she can drown me out. Cost of the Bose QCs is only about sixty bucks more than these and mine came with a cool cary case, cable for plug-in listening (not something I use) and little converter for inflight hookups. Another convenient feature on the Bose set is that they pair with, and remember two devices, so next time you turn 'em on, they connect automatically. One more cool thing--if you have two pair of them (as I do) the Bose App lets you connect both pair to the same sound source--very handy if, for instance, I wanted to listen to an episode of Desperate Housewives From Wherever with my girlfriend/worst nightmare--which I fucking guarantee you will never happen!

RayFyeah, the ability to actually listen to noise filtered through each headphone should shut people up pretty fast if they claim the ANC is better. I own the Bose QC25 and 35 and the Sony 1000 (one for everybody in the family) and enjoy them for their comfort and ANC. They are the market leaders and the ones to beat in this category. Also have the Airpods because nothing beats their ease of use which is unsurpassed. Of course, at home, nothing beats the simplicity of good wired headphones for any critical listening. Nothing to go obsolete, need firmware updates, no batteries with limited number of recharges, no apps needed and most importantly, the best sound quality for the buck.

Some of the comments here have me smh. I own a pair of H7 2nd Gen's & they are very good. B&O's have a house sound so I feel relatively confident in transferring what I hear to the H4's. Decent bass, slightly recessed mids & highs that are exceptional without being sibilant. A classic v-shaped sound. Some of that V-shape recedes a bit as they burn in but it'll never go away completely & can be material dependent. Build quality is top notch as is comfort. Isolation is a bit below average but once you've go the music going, it mitigates some of that concern. Build quality is exemplary. The app is a bit simplistic but it works well. The headphone don't come with a case but third party custom cases can be found on Amazon for under $20 & I'd highly recommend getting one. The Bluetooth connection is pretty solid but I have experienced breakups in high traffic areas where there can be signal interference for taxis, limousines & such. At this price, if you're looking for a Bluetooth headphone with an upscale look & build, they're well worth it.

MaverickAHI have the H8i and they are terrific headphones! My only complaint is that, like you've experienced, the bluetooth can sometimes act up, but that has been few and far between. The sound quality is excellent and the fit and finish of the materials is outstanding

I didnt get them on massdrop but I own these, didnt see much discussion so I thought i would contribute. Pros First of all I love the sound, the beoplay app does not offer much for configuration but its enough. The battery life is awesome especially when traveling, I use them for work bluetoothed to my laptop. very portable as the earpieces fold in and allow it to slide into a bag compartment cons mine are a few years old but the leather(like) top has begun to split from its foam underside on the head piece (this could be prevented with a carrying case of some sort) sometimes it does not seem to recognize that it is in use when connected as a hands free device to my laptop and will auto shut off MSRP is too high, I got mine for $175 several years ago so I cant complain Hope this helps a little
