I always understood that the purpose of groupbuying was obtaining nice prices based on sales volume. But... How can I react seeing ATM that this headphones are about $120 (with free shipping, delivered in two days) on amazon and here on Drop the very same are $166.50 (including "shipping and handling" with estimated ship for two weeks!)? That's absolutely crazy... I feel the life-motive of this site greatly lost. Good luck.

I am over 50 and decided I wanted to have my first headphones...ever. I like music - especially the music I like, but I have always listened through a quality speaker system in a media room setup. I always felt like headphones were "cheating" since, of course they could have overwhelming sound since they were right over your ears! That didn't make them comparable (in my mind) to the wonderful sound that comes through high-end speakers and quality system. I have no technical expertise.
I want to let you all here know how much I appreciate your thoughts and recommendations and experiences with all headphones and equipment because I am one of those you helped greatly through your comments - even though no one knew I was out here reading and listening. Based on my preferences and all of your information, I decided on these DT770 Pro (80 ohm) headphones as my choice.
I got them in the July drop along with purchase of Modi 2 and Magni 3 dac and amp, and audioquest cables. Getting these headphones and putting them on was better than Christmas - for me, it was like when I played youth baseball and made the majors that had the full uniform... and I put that on for the first time (actually every time I got to put on that uniform).
Listening to music with these headphones has been everything I was anticipating and hoping for! I have actually been almost scared to listen more because I worry that I will use it up or it won't be real the next time... Instead, it keeps getting better. It is a totally wonderful experience to listen to music with these headphones...
So, now I am going to give all of you a gift back for all the help I was given. I think it would work for anyone using these headphones, but for all of you - just use your own favorites. The music you will be listening to is from Ray Lynch and his specific album is Deep Breakfast. You will be listening to 3 songs ( in this order): 1) Celestial Soda Pop, 2) Rhythm In The Pews and 3) Tiny Geometries.
My directions are that you won't be working at listening, you won't be listening to try and decide how it could be even better, you won't be deciding if the headphone cable should be shorter (or longer)...you will set your mind free, let it get lost, let it soar with the music.. For me, I let mine go into space - limitless and unreal. These headphones help you treasure the music and experience the pure joy it can bring.
These headphones can take me anywhere I want to go...
Enjoy ... and peace to you all!

Every phone is different. I don't personally own a pair of 32ohm DT770s, but I've looked around and found most people agree they're best for mobile devices. Better safe than sorry, especially when investing in a pair of headphones you'll probably use every day.
When I said it's subjective, I meant your opinion that the audio level was "totally acceptable". If you wanted to be objective, you could have given the exact db they could reach on your phone, the model of your phone, and any other details that might help a potential buyer decide. It's rude to jump in and immediately assume no one else knows what they're talking about, and you're the expert. I tend to trust a consensus, rather than just one person saying I'm crazy.
Oh, and this is from Beyer's own website, which took about 2 minutes to find. It's not statistics, but it *is* a quote straight from the manufacturer.

To be clear, I'm not here to rain on your parade or be rude. I just don't appreciate you being condescending to people who were willing to give polite replies based on their personal experience with the item.

MacroHotlineI’ve used them with my smartphone and with an Amp and I can’t hear a difference other than how loud it’ll go. You’ll be fine without one.

No more acting like they are selling the same product for alot cheaper, somehow...Now just simply selling the exact same thing, for exactly the same price, anyone can get from Amazon.. What would be the point in "pre-ordering" these, when anyone can literally go about anywhere, and get these, and have them within days, because they are already in stock. This just seems silly..lol Also, if they really did charge 180 for them, why would(they think) anyone would want to pay more than they have to, and then wait who knows how long for it? No one would, it wouldn't make sense. That would have been truly hilarious!

shkdwnstI bought a 250 ohm pair from England and had them shipped to the US for $100. New from a reputable online dealer. Free shipping. My point is deals are out there if you're patient and look. Today on Black Friday it's $149 on Drop which I think is a good deal for a great headphone.

KrisBaliI own both (250 ohm version of the DT770). The 6xx's are better / more neutral. But I still like my 770's a lot. They have amazing, deep bass look cool, are built like a tank and super comfortable.

Wondering what the difference in Ohms means? Sorry I am new to higher end headphones and never the choice before with my other cans. Bose QC35, JBL Btooth and Sennheiser 590. Have a tiny cheap amp I never use as well as the Shanling UP4 which I always use with Lg G7. Any info greatly appreciated!! Cheers

Brickcity77So here's the best answer I can give about high impedance headphones, while yes you might be able to drive them using your phone, it's not going to sound its best most likely. Higher impedance headphones are voltage driven vs low impedance which are current driven. Smart phones since they are powered by a battery don't do as well with voltage driven high impedance headphones and will sound quiet (there may be exceptions of course). But an OTL tube amp, like the Bottlehead Crack, is the opposite as it sounds wonderful with high impedance headphones and not so good with low impedance ones. The OTL tube amp is going to produce the proper voltage to drive HI headphones because vacuum tubes are high voltage, low current devices. For example I have a Bottlehead Crack and I purchased a 250 ohm version of the above headphones to go with it and they sounded great. But did an experiment to mod them to 600 ohms using the drivers from Beyerdynamic and they sounded even better when used in the Crack but not so good when plugged into my Google Pixel 3. Hopefully this helps, I may not have all the details right, but it's in the ballpark. This article explains it a bit better: https://www.cnet.com/news/headphone-buyers-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-low-vs-high-impedance-models/

tim273Really? Voltage driven vs current driven? E=IR or R=E/I where E is voltage, I is current and R is resistance or impedance in this case for an AC audio signal. The lower the impedance the more current you will get through the headphones voice coils and therefore more volume. E, I and R are all related. Apparently it has little impact in the overall sound of the various DT 770 headphones, but I haven't heard them yet. 80 Ohms seems like a nice compromise for all applications. My HD58x sound great driven from my iPhone 8 with the apple DAC lightning to headphone adaptor, and they are 150 ohms.

I've had the DT770 Pro 80's for some years now (5yrs for those who need detail) .. Mine stay at home as they are poorly suited to mobile use (which is fine they are studio headphones)
As noted many times they are fun v-shaped sounding closed headphones they have quite good bass , mids a bit recessed highs are nice not super harsh as can be the case with some beyers .. these are best with a amp, my Galaxy S8 can't really get them loud or clear enough for my liking.
The cable is long and fixed, it is a high~ish quality cable and other than a bit of the white printing on the earcups wearing, my pair show very little wear overall for being used heavily at home for 5~yrs. Do probably figure on spending $35~ on new ear pads yearly however.. as the velour is comfortable but wears/ deteriorates over time... gently washing ear pads every now and again will extend the interval between new pads..but ~year is about it for me.

In my opinion...pay $160 on amazon and get them in 2 days if you have prime. Pay $150 on drop and you get them in 2 months. I’d go amazon all day. But honestly, I bought mine from Sweetwater and paid $130 and got them in two days.
GemCityJakeAt least one version of 770/880/990 has been on newegg flash sale every week or 2 for a while now if people keep an eye on that usually 4ish day shipping
