Product Description
While many headphones make you choose between an open- and closed-back construction, the Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro splits the difference with a semi-open design that allows for increased airflow and a wider soundstage. It brings full depth and excitement to the entire range, with a smooth, extended treble; a transparent, detailed midrange; and a punchy, layered bass Read More

Indestructible, Comfortable, and Sounds damn Fine.
I've been wearing them for 2 years or so about almost every day for a few hours, they barely have a scratch and still have a lot of clamp force, which some may not like but I don't mind, they have beautiful detail and very quick response.

Really nice headphones
I have AKG K701s, AKG 7XXs, Senn 6XXs, Beyer 770s, Beyer 880s The 880s are bright of course as most say, but not in a bad way, they don't feel piercing and bass lacking as my AKG K701s were when new (before 100's of hours of use as of today and the known bass mod) The 7XXs similar to the K701s, if somewhat less trebly. The 6XXs are a little too dark and soft for my taste, The 770s pair, what can I say, the best for young people... edm and rock oriented material and really silent to use for monitoring while recording acoustic instruments... obviously they're different purpose headphones and different design (closed vs open) and this accounts for some of the differences but the 770s are terribly bass heavy, not the case with 880s. The beyers 880s feel really good, proper bass, sparkling highs and balanced mids. If I had to chose which one to keep, I'd currently go for them, they're incredibly comfortable and seem durable too. I'll use them mainly for mixing projects.

These don't sound like DT880s
The Beyerdynamic DT880 has long had a reputation as a neutral and clear headphone, with excellent detail and soundstage. So that's what I was kinda expecting. Unfortunately these Drop editions seem to have been tuned to be more bassy, so they don't much sound like DT880s anymore. Imagine a DT990 without the shrill top end, and that's closer to what these sound like to me. Consequently, they have more boomy midbass, less detail and poorer resolution than the other pair of DT880s I own. I don't necessarily dislike them. They are good if you enjoy a slightly bassier sound signature, which many people do. But they don't really stand out from the many other boomy consumer headphones out there. So why market them as DT880s?

asgilbSolderdude reviewed the Black Edition and they don't measure like 250 ohm Pro or Edition DT880s https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-a-i/dt880-black-se/

Great Headphones and Great Price from Drop
After intensely researching many headphones for my first real pair, I determined that the DT880 was the way to go. From what I read they were the perfect balance of what I needed. They are semi-open-backed, and they have a flat reference curve with a bit of emphasis on the high end. I have used these headphones for a few months now, and I am happy with my purchase. A few things to note:
  • Although they haven't given any evidence of breaking, the part to adjust earcup length feels very loose. I believe the cups wobble a bit to conform to the shape of your head but the clasp mechanism holding them in place is plastic and seems like a weak point in its structure.
  • The sound is well balanced with an emphasis on the high ends. The sound is sparkly with some decent bass. This could make listening to music like punk or rock a hit or miss as I seem to experience fatigue from the constant bombardment of high hats and snares.
Overall I enjoy listening to media and music using these headphones. They are comfortable and sound great.

Solid headphones for the money
This review is coming from a guy who owns the Beyerdynamic lineup to include the DT 990, DT 770, and now the DT 880. The sound compared to the others I can definitely say it sounds flatter with regards to the frequency response curve. The highs aren't quite as bright as the DT-990, but are equally resolving. These didn't give me the occasional piercing highs that I would experience with the 990. The base reproduction wasn't quite as deep as the 770, but I found it to be sufficient. I found these to be a good middle ground with regards to performance between the 770 and 990.

These arrived missing two screws with the ear pieces unattached and flopping around the box. Drop wouldn't replace them (since they were sold through) or fix them because of their no warranty policy on this product. Currently contacting Beyerdynamic to send me some screws to fix them myself as these are the headphones I want. I'm sure they sound good but not a great customer service experience with Drop. I'm not normally a complainer but bummer, right?

Bass forward, very recessed everything else.
I was disappointed that these weren't dt770pro with bass. If you like your bass to overshadow the rest of the mix, by all means, use these. I was even the one who was put off by the dt770pro before with the everything on the same plain of existence and super treble. I used oratory1990s dekoni pad eq, but any eq was very similar. I'm using these on top a modi 3+ / magney heresy. I wouldn't discourage people from these. I was just disappointed with the sound.

What is unique is the sound stage as if I am listening from a pair very good speakers
Extremely smooth clear articulated sound that you enjoyed listening a longer time. Fantastic and perfect pair of headphones.
