It is an older unit in that a newer version has added AirPlay2 and Alexa connectivity. However, if you are going for a wired system, this is a great speaker. I use one with Roon over internet for a remote room and I am considering another to work as a stereo set.
This unit might look impressive on paper. But without separation of the speakers, true tweeters, or a subwoofer, this speaker is not capable of 'hi-res audio'. I don't care what they claim.
I realize that simplicity is the priority for some - at least in certain situations. But for $300, one could purchase a Bluetooth-capable Edifier stereo system and a Polk subwoofer that would absolutely trounce the Bluesound Pulse Mini.
