The Bravo Audio S1 Hi-Fi Audio Headphone Amplifier takes the same infrastructure and output design of Bravo’s popular tube-amp packages and wraps it in a smaller, more accessible form factor. Made of no more than two acrylic plates separated by four spacer bars with the circuitry and op-amp components nestled inside, the S1 looks and feels more like a DIY project amp than anything else. But that’s partly by design: the Bravo S1 leaves its components exposed so users can swap out the op-amp stage to their taste. While it includes a stock TL072ACP op amp that some listeners confirm is a perfectly solid choice, the value here is that you can customize your solid-state sound—something more often reserved for tube amps. Pair all of that with an impressive frequency response, your choice of impedance ranges, and 68-decibel signal-to-noise ratio, and you’ve got a capable little amp, whether you want to tinker with it or not.
