Product Description
There’s a reason Cardas Audio calls its Anniversary-Edition IEM the A8 “Ear Speaker.” It’s because this portable audio solution is designed to sound just like a high-performance loudspeaker. The driver is a 10.85-millimeter, ultra-linear dual-magnetic unit with a contour-field design that produces brilliant highs and powerful bass, while maintaining musicality across all frequencies Read More

this item is now much more expensive than EM5813, while the latter is higher in listed initial price. from the available reviews, I believe this A8 is better sounding than EM5813. However, why the estimated shipping time is the same as EM5813, I just cannot handle the run-in process for 2 earphones at the same time.

Are there options for different cable terminations? Can we get something different from the standard 3.5mm connector?

The stock 3.5mm TRS is the only option available on this drop. If you want to send them back in for re-terminaiton we can change the plug for $60 plus shipping. 1/4" TRS is popular as is 2.5mm balanced.

Not if you want to use them out and about. It's much easier to replace a messed up cable than the entire pair of IEMs...

I understand that you aren't a professional in the field, but anyway, what is your view based on? Of course everyone has his/her own view and has right to have one and it's even a good thing to have one, but this is a technical question and opinions and views can be simply wrong. Your view is wrong at least because there are 2 (two) different electric connection schemes between audio equipment including headphones. One of them is with common ground and the other is differential (for non professionals these are commonly known as unbalanced and balanced). Today, a A lot of hi-fi DAPs/AMPs have balanced outputs and some high-end models only have balanced ones, so for those who don't know: there's no way of connecting an unbalanced topology headphones to the powered balanced output without using coupling active or passive (transformer based) hardware which gives increased cost, size, mass, noise, distortion and makes hi-fi abilities of the amplifier useless and eventually you are obliged to either use unbalanced output if it's present or change the DAP/AMP. Balanced cables of the earphones, on the other hand, can be connected to unbalanced powered output using a simple adapter, but this is not the case with cardas. Even if the leads in this cable are fully isolated and there's a way to replace the jack with the unbalanced one, still not everyone can do that and this doesn't make the the cable attractive at all. In many aspects, the rational judgement leads to my point of view.
  1. Compatibility - see above. These are restricted to unbalanced output ports. Are these quality IEMs that are not meant to be connected to the best quality (in most part) audio signal output?
  2. Performance - I have half a dozen of iem cables which are by far better quality than those used on cardas. Even if factory ones have good electrical specs, you can't replace them with even better ones.
  3. Aesthetics - There's no good looking and bad looking cables and everyone has his own opinion, but it's a bad thing that you can not replace bad looking parts with ones that you like.
  4. Practicality - What if you are a wireless freedom fan? You can't connect your bluetooth cable to there iems.
  5. Durability - good or bad, taken care of or not, the cables are expendable parts and will generally fail earlier than the iems, hopefully. You can't replace these simply by buying new wires.
as for the soldering, what about the other end of the cable? should the iems be coming soldered to a particular (probably cardas) brand of DAP/AMP? definitely not! There is a number of miniature connectors designed for iem use and they proved very durable (especially 2-pin ones). So, just believe me, self-respecting iems will have removeable cables!

Imo, I dont like how the cables that connect to the earpiece itself are two different colors
