Next time you hear the phrase "transfer of wealth" think of this item.

I'd like to think that my focus on the EDC community has been what my spending binges and lack of knowledge come in. But thanks to making small purchases in all aspects of the community (bluetooth headphones, watches (under 100$), battery banks, knives, flashlights, and a pilot metropolitan [I think I goofed by not getting their fine nib]), I am able to better refine my tastes. So when I read 'hey this pen nib tends to feel gritty when writing', 'the blade thickness on this knife just tends to wedge things apart instead of slicing through it', or my favorite 'the sound on these headphones are just too muddy' I actually know what they are talking about and am able to weigh my options in future purchases. For this one, I suppose I would love to see what a portable comb would look and feel like, and experiment with different materials (which is ALWAYS FUN).
EDIT: If I will drop big bucks on headphones alone, I'll probably drop big bucks on a grade open back SR80e, and a sennheiser momentum for in the house, non-traveling-leisure-type listening (because that's such a common subgenera of headphones haha). But I'm pretty satisfied with my muddy bluetooth Sonys and my Jaybird X2's

Mr.SATismYou made two mistakes with the Pilot Metropolitan--first, you should have bought the Fine, and second, Metropolitans are crap, never should have bought one ;- )

So a comb that weights this little is $6.75 to ship down under.

monkeycMultiple times complaining about shipping to Australia on the same Drop, along with complaining about it on several others. Sorry that a US based company with a satellite in the EU for certain drops has expensive shipping elsewhere. Both the US and Australia have crappy overall internet access, prices, and reliability, but unless we either fix it or move to somewhere that has amazing prices and service (Japan and South Korea come to mind) we are pretty much stuck.

Please. Someone. Have I been brainwashed? in the last 30 years of my life I can personally testify that I have never owned a comb. Nor have I even combed my hair or wanted to comb my hair. How did they manage to get me to buy this just now.?!?! Whoever designed this had a gift. I never would have guess you could make a comb look so cool.

Haha I wish I could say I kept it short all the time. I played water polo in high school and we were always known for dried out unkept hair and it just followed me my whole life. I do sometimes throw like pomade in it and mess it around... so that’s my replacement for a comb. for the record I have incredibly straight hair. Like most girls would kill for my hair, but because of that I have always viewed it as feminine and therefore done what I can to mess it up.
MdotMaxsonEveryone has different hair! Mine is very fine, and floofy. IMO, girls liking your hair is a good thing ;) Hope you enjoyed the comb!

FYI - This is hardly a deal. For me, shipping was 2.75 for a total of $12.74 (I live in the Midwest). On the Chicago Comb Co. website, it's $14.99 with FREE shipping in the USA, and it ships within 2 days. Also, currently they have an engraving deal where you can engrave up to 20 characters on your comb for FREE. So for just $2.25 more, you can get your comb engraved and a month earlier. I just placed my order there.

Same experience with mine. Sharp burrs on the teeth.
I can't imagine anyone looking at one of these and thinking "there is no need to finish them".

FlyGnatIt is probably on MassDrop more for publicity then. Personally I found this to be something I would buy. However I don’t actively shop for combs so I wouldnt have known it existed or that I wanted one had MassDrop not offered it to me.

I know this might seem really stupid, but how would this work with hair products such as hair gel and pomade? And would it be easier to clean this comb than a traditional plastic comb?
Mr.SATismThanks for your question. Please see my reply to Bruckner, below. Works great with pomades and hair gels. Seems to be easier to clean and the hair product doesn’t adhere to the inside of the tines as much, as compared with a typical plastic comb.

Can anyone speak to how these compare to Kent combs (i.e., the best combs I've ever owned)?
Thanks for your comment. I can provide an anecdote since I've owned two Kent combs. I had a very small Kent years ago; it worked well but the gold foil lettering wore off almost immediately (and then unfortunately I misplaced it). More recently I had a larger size Kent comb which got left on a ledge in the shower. It ended up warping quite a bit from the humidity, so it no longer really lays flat, which is kind of annoying. The warping is a function of the type of plastic they use. If you know anyone in the plastics industry, ask them what they think of cellulose acetate. I got eye rolls from a few people I spoke with in that field. One engineering guy couldn't believe it was still being used - it's considered an old fashioned, low-end material that doesn't take advantage of the advances in materials science that have happened in recent years. Nonetheless, as I said, the Kent comb isn't a bad comb relative to many of the others out there. Really happy to hear you're trying the Chicago Comb! We inspect each of them and if there's an issue with flashing (excess material on the tips of the tines) we correct it. If you ever get a comb with any issue, please write us at info@chicagocomb.com and we'll be more than happy to take care of it right away.

Definitely need a good comb, but there's no excuse for leather. Try another run without hurting animals.
MassdropbearThanks for your feedback. The combs can be purchased stand-alone; the leather sheaths are optional. We're also working on a non-leather sheath option which we hope to offer in future drops.

I see Model 1 for $13.99 on Amazon with Prime and it's around $13.50 from Drop for me here on the East Coast ($10+S&H). Probably going to spend the $0.50 extra to get it in a few days instead of wait a month.

I hope you realize that Drop is in the "gray" market for a lot of product on this website - if you buy a watch good luck getting it repaired under warranty.
PNWNativeChicago Comb manufactures and directly provides these products to Massdrop. If you ever have any issues with your comb, no matter when you bought it, please email us at info@chicagocomb.com and we'll take care of you.
