I hear what the WMK w/ LTK people are saying about price, and I dig it. Something that's really cool about this community is that we are vigilant on things like that, to the point that a lot of other people can just check the discussion and quickly get a sense as to whether or not it's a good deal. Given that Massdrop started out with people seeking discounts, that price consciousness and willingness to do the wissenschaft on competitor prices is always going to be a part of what characterizes this community. I like the idea that like minded people have my back on stuff like this, it's part of what makes community e-tailing so attractive when done properly.
When the price difference is this small, I'm fine buying it here, so long as the company's honoring the idea of community driven e-commerce through its practices and not just seeing the community as a group of captive customers whose wealth can be extracted. And that of course is something that still needs to be determined. Drop hasn't always acted recently like they still see a role for the existing community in their plans for ongoing business, but given what they've just said about their plans for communities, I'm ok making a show of good faith. Your mileage may well vary. :)
glennacnice!
How you like that TOPS flipper? I love TOPS but I know they had someone OEM it for them, so was waiting to hear some field notes on it before maybe picking it up.
You can get it WhiteMountainKnives for $38.25 and free shipping with a coupon code. Just look up SliceyDicey on youtube. I got mine in 2 days. Great Knife for the money. Of course it is because it is made by the WE Knife company.
Detente is perfect and it flies out. Smooth action great fit and finish.
Just1JoeI joined the Mdrop for the Praxis. But, I was able to get the Baklash from WMK, and I used the promo code!!! Just like you said, $38.25, out the door :) They just restocked the Baklash as I received an email from WMK. They are still out of the Praxis.
Thank you !
Sorry I'm not sold.
-Uninspired design (same old, same old)
-Unimpressive steel
To me this is a question of Quantity vs. Quality. 3 of these mediocre knives or 1 really good one with great steel
PaLeeIts a budget knife that costs $42. Looking at whats available at that price point civivi is the clear winner of budget offerings. The ht is very good on the 9cr18 also performing similar to Vg10. Its a nice beater and offers aliot of value.
MuttonChewIf you go to YouTube and type in Zelrick Civivi knife review, several vids will come up on Praxis, Baklash, and the Naja, plus disassembly and maintenance videos too. I’m unsure, but I think I recall steel ball bearings being Civivi’s preference when I was looking. Bill
wdennisThe pivor is stainless steel ball bearing and the detent is ceramic ball bearing so you get a strong and crisp detent that won’t wear out/flatten over time unlike the steel detent
NotsurewhyibotherYeah, I’m getting a bit more sceptical myself about these offerings. The presumed deal following massdrop involvement seems less and less the case and more like just another “beating the drum” ploy for my money. I’m finding the Massdrop savings on much of the daily drumbeat items debatable. Ok, I get it, not everything is available for the mass purchase approach. Maybe this approach by a company is not sustainable, I don’t know, but I confess a comparable price by Amazon with practicalily instant shipping sorely tempts me—-despite their Hugenesssssss.......B
NotsurewhyibotherI bot a Naja a hew months ago and just picked up a Wyvern. I am very impressed with both of them. I feel that they are on par with the Bestech D2s and the RAT-1 in D2. ($40-50 range).
I bought a Civivi Praxis and Baklash from Amazon via third party sellers last week, White Mountain and Atlantic if I recall.....$42 each. And in my estimation, both nearly perfect. Given that this price point is generally regarded as a budget value niche, I’d be really concerned were I a knife company obliviously selling my products in this previously safe zone with its previously large “soft quality“ expectations. That said, it appears the playing surface has changed, and if you’ll forgive the pun, We clearly benefit(s). The adage, faster, better, cheaper—-pick two, no longer applies. I loved the Link and Dividend, but I confess I wonder what these two blades would have been like without the smoke and mirrors of AO and brought to market by We.
I have the Praxis and feel it performs comparably to VG10 in terms of edge retention, though VG10 can get a little sharper at max. Sharpens up about as easily as VG10 also. I would call this about the finest "budget" steel I've used. Worlds apart from 8 Cr.
I have a couple of blades in this. They sharpen easily and get quite sharp. The edge retention is decent. Way short of my M390 blades, but certainly very acceptable.
With the discount code, this sells for $38.25 (if I have done the math correctly) and shipping is free at WhiteMountainKnives. From personal experience, the shipping is very fast. Drop drops the ball. Y'all need to take a look at your competition if you are still interested in selling knives. I'm willing to buy, but when other places sell for less and ship much more quickly and have great customer service about returning damaged items, you have been left in the rear view mirror. Are you willing to change your ways? I will probably pick this up from WMK, especially after watching a review by Slicey Dicey.
I just looked at my order from WMK. I got the Bestech Beluga. I can't remember the reason that I didn't get the Praxis. Maybe they were out and I didn't want to leave without buying something. When I go a week or two without a box in my mailbox (or on the patio), I start to go thru withdrawal.
I actually have this in my pocket right now. It was my first MD purchase. Overall, the fit and finish is pretty good. Nice smooth action and lockup. Sure, the steel isn't the best, but for my daily use, it holds up well. A few passes on my Sharpmaker, and it shaves hair.
The only issue, if you can even call it that, is that the tan version I received is darker than what is shown in the pics. Not a big deal to me at all, just wanted people to be aware.
I have this knife and amazing value for what you get. Action is fantastic. Fit and finish is first rate. You will not find a better knife under $50. I guess that all vendors are selling it for the same price.
Great blade shape, fit and finish is on , but not field tested yet.. still deciding if I'm gonna gift it or use it... with this cost, I know I won't cry if I abuse it .
