Great Pads, poor fit.
The leather really does feel much nicer and cooler than the stock pleather on my CX. They are deeper (physically) and sound great. Only problem I have with them is the fitment on the mating surface. The pads are just a tad large and the plastic cutout that holds the shape of the mating surface within the pad wrinkles/buckles to fit the pad in the housing. The adhesive is, correctly, not overly strong and does not hold the pad to the surface where this buckles so it may lift a little in one spot. This is a smaller problem than it may seem (at least in my case) and after a little finagling and just wearing in, the pads seal and the lifting is minimal. I would doubt any impact on sound. Its just something that they could have prevented by making the pad just a little smaller. I would buy a pair again but these seem to be of great quality and should last a long time. I could put the old pads back on if I wanted to, but I haven't. These accessories should work but I understand that they may not be perfect. The number of people buying these pads is so small that the accessories are nearly boutique. Its not like a 600 series, and to expect the same is not fair. Thank you Dekoni for making pads for DCA.

Not built to spec
The earpads are slightly oversized compared to the original earpads that came with Aeon Open X; because they are oversized, the adhesive was impossible to get sealed 100% all the way around without leaving gaps as I have to bend/fold the shape of the earpads to fit them into the headphone shape. It would have been safter to make them slightly undersized so they at least don't have to be forced into the correct shape. In addition to affecting the sound, this also prevents the adhesive from forming a strong bond to the headphones; my best bet at this point is to order new earpads directly from Dan Clark to try to get them back to their original state since the adhesive on the original earpads has been compromised while pulling them off to install these.

Great
Real pain to install. Just take your time. Clean the headphone with isopropyl alcohol first. Once installed, slight improvement in comfort. That is just my opinion. I got these as I prefer the soft velour versus leather. Like the change a lot!

Elite Fenestrated <3
I pick my pads based on comfort, not the changes they make to the sound. These pads DO change the sound signature. Expect it. In the case of the fenestrated pads, it'll roll the bass off just a touch. I installed them onto my Aeon 2 Closed because, well, I hate protean leather. Pleather fails quick and is much more insulating. Having used the Dekoni fenestrated on most all of my other cans (Dekoni doesn't do pads for a few), I knew exactly what I was getting into. The pads reduce the isolation a bit, no longer making my ears pop if I pull the cans off to quick. They also reduce the heat buildup inside the cups, where the stock pads making my ears all toasty after a short use, I can use the cans all day with Dekoni and have zero problems. Installation is a bit tedious, with Dan Clark having picked the worst method of pad affixation possible, double sided tape. Overall, totally worth the price.

Elite Hybrid on AFO RT is a worthy pairing.
What I was hoping the hybrids will do for me is taking down the warmth a notch and bringing the vocals a little more forward. I was confident I would get what I want based on the measurements made available on Dekoni's site but that doesn't always play out in practice. I am 7 hours into A/B testing the stock pads and the hybrids and I will say that these are absolutely perfect for my taste. One thing to note is the vocalist is more forward but I wouldn't say more intimate when thinking of it in a 6XX perspective. Matter of fact I think they sound more open and closer to my 4XX now with the increased air frequencies. For reference I like my Aeon's without any filters with both the stock pads and hybrid pads. Two big issues I had with the stock Aeons is the double bass drums in heavy metal felt a bit "blown out" for me and vocalists felt like they were stripped of their power. For a very fast driver it almost felt slow but I know this isn't what I was experiencing. I wouldn't dare call it bloat either. I think the best way to put it is it sounds like they took the pillows out of their kick drums and are blasting away. If you feel you are experiencing this with your Aeons when listening to that nasty metal these pads will fix this issue with you. As for the second issue, warmth lends itself well to gorgeous voices like Tanerelle or Jonny Craig but not so well to the slobs I love like Lorna Shore and Shrine of Malice. Shrine of Malice was especially difficult to listen to with how they mastered their music. With the hybrid pads I feel like I can hear their screams for what they are and feel their energy. What of those gorgeous vocals? I'll admit, Jonny Craig sounds marginally better with the warmth turned up but no where near the difference in vocal performances in metal. These pads are five steps forward and one step back in a select few tracks. tldr, Metal heads with AFO RT, get these pads. Aeon X metal heads, extrapolate as necessary but I imagine it will be close. AFO owners, I have a hunch what I am hearing is what the AFO already is so I can't help you. Reference music: Jinjer Tanerelle Jonny Craig VRSTY The Devil Wears Prada Lorna Shore Shrine of Malice Architects Devin Townsend Kardashev Shadow of Intent Slaves Whitechapel The list of music is pretty short because I only listened to select songs over and over for comparison's sake to more effectively A/B the pads. For A/B testing I would not adhere the pads to the headphones every time, I have the stock pads on wax paper and the Hybrid pads as they came. I know this will change the sound slightly but not enough to matter, the results were consistent once I adhered the hybrid pads.

I just got my fenestrated "sheepskin" and elite "sheepskin" pads and i peeled the originals slowly so i can preserve them for reference... good thing i did! Fenestrated "sheepskin" sounds NOTHING like the original pads, i got no measurement rig, but i can honestly say that they make my Aeon2 closed sound like trash tier cans. They get SUPER tinny and screechy and unbearable after just a few minutes. I slowly peeled them off the headphone and just plopped them in their box and i can say for certain they are never coming into contact with my face ever again. HOWEVER, the elite "sheepskin" actually does work - i put them on, and ho and behold - i got an ever so slightly warmer than the original sound blasting my ears. I can live with this no problem :) Soundstage wise i do not hear a difference. I've been using "sheepskin" because ... they don't really feel like sheepskin. They also smell slightly chemically... not quite sure what the material is, If it actually is sheepskin they might have treated it with something for that smell to stick to them... It's nothing obnoxious mind you ... just thought i'd point it out. I think they get a bit sweatier than the original too, it's not hot right now where i am, but i can certainly feel it's a bit more stuffy inside when i wear them. I don't think anyone should get the fenestrated ones or the hybrid... they make the headphone worse. And for the price ... well i honestly do not know... i think you are better off getting original pads instead.

nidus123great review Nidus, I think you got it right putting the regular sheepskin pads after reading everyone else's experiences with the other variants. My AFC's will be arriving shortly, can't wait!

[Hybrid on AFC RT] Good quality and comfort, but strong change in sound.
I hoped to change the stock pads for my Aeon Flow Closed RT with Dekoni Elite Hybrid, as I have done with my Sundaras. Unfortunately, there are two issues that affect the sound negatively (for me). First, and unlike the Sundaras that went from Hybrid to Hybrid, these go from Full Pleather to Hybrid. This does have an impact, lowering the Bass on the headphones. The added comfort is nice, but the headphones were already neutral to bass-light, so it really sucked out the enjoyment of the music for me. Secondly, the pads are slightly thicker than the stock pads (stock on the left, Dekoni on the right):

The impact of this is to increase the distance between the driver and your ear, again lessening Bass. When I pushed the headphones on my head, sound became much fuller and so I hope compressing the pads for a week or so will help alleviate this issue. For now however, I cannot recommend the Hybrids on the Aeon Flow Closed: they were already a little bass-light, and these pads made them sound bright and lean. If you have the same headphones, I recommend keepeing the stock pads, or maybe trying the full leather Dekoni pads (which should not have the same impact on sound).

Comfortable, but greatly change the frequency response.
Just as the title says. I bought two pairs of the elite hybrid pads because I knew of Dekoni's reputation for comfort and the stock pads on my Aeon X had gotten deformed from using them daily. Comfort-wise, these are great; not noticeably different from stock, but the stock pads were already good. Sound-wise, these are pretty different from the stock pads. They have a wider soundstage, but that comes at the cost of the bass. Just going by what I hear, these pads make the bass fall back and emphasize the mids, killing the "slam" in the process. A little bit of EQ brings them back in line. My personal EQ settings with these pads are below, but I only have my ears to listen and have no way to A/B these with and without new pads. Preamp: -3.5 dB Filter 1: Low-shelf, 450 Hz, 3.5 dB, Q=0.71 Filter 2: Peak, 200 Hz, -1.0 dB, Q=0.71 Filter 3: Peak, 80 Hz, -2.0 dB, Q=1.0.

I would say it does turn the warmth down a bit, but they're still a warm headphone. I noticed it as more of a shift in what instruments get emphasized in a song rather than changing the "character" of the Aeons, if that makes sense.

Lurker307That is incredibly helpful, thank you. It also sounds like exactly what I was hoping to achieve based on the measurement’s on Dekoni’s site.
