Hey everyone,
Like many others, I have been following Ray on Instagram for awhile - he’s always posting cool photos of his latest work-in-progress..and lots of photos of his dogs too, which sometimes inspire the names of his custom knives (like MinPin and Yorkie). I first got a chance to meet Ray and check out his work in person at the USN Gathering in October 2017, and I knew right away that his designs would translate well into production. They are immediately recognizable, super-clean, and really a joy to hold.
Ray is known for his elegant simplicity and precision machining. To bring his designs to life, WE Knife seemed like the obvious match. You can see from the photo below how closely they were able to replicate Ray’s work in production. Ray is known for milling grooves and holes into the handles of his blades, so we wanted to capture those elements as well. However, Ray makes everything by hand, and we wanted to capture that in the production version of this knife while taking advantage of the capabilities of CNC machining. You can see this reflected especially in the curved shape of the Groove model; you may see grooves on the handles of Ray’s custom knives, and you will certainly see curves, but you will not see curved grooves. Using CNC milling for this production, we were able to create that shape to match the curvature of the handle.

Thanks for checking out our latest collaboration with WE Knife and our first with Ray, I hope you like it as much as we do!

Fuction needn’t follow form here. A stop pin mounted low in the scale is all that’s required to function well and look good.

I’m hoping I’m wrong and just being paranoid. I guess this knife will be a test for me. IF this is indeed an issue, it will probably take a while to manifest.

Okay quick question will the batch coming in July have the new drop pivot and without the mass drop markings on the blade? If yes I would be in for one!

A $15 knife with a $150 price tag. But, knife fanatics have loose purse strings, not good buyers sense.

Please show me a titanium handled knife with the same blade-steel, equitable smoothness of action when opening/closing the blade, and similarly beautiful design language as well as that incredible purple...find something like that for less than $100 and u will blow my mind

Correct me if I am wrong, but the left handed version is just the right handed version with a clip on the left carry side right?

Still says "there's even a lefty version" and "... you can grab the left-handed version if you prefer" in the description. I honestly am not trying to harp on this thing, but really, the whole thing has left me cold to Massdrop. I know it's not a huge deal, and it's not like there isn't a plethora of hyperbole in marketing elsewhere. But, one of the great things about these Massdrop collaborations has been their willingness to listen to the mob....I mean customers.
The ad copy enthusiastically crowing about there being a "lefty version" (which costs $5 more) is reminiscent of shit you see on products in supermarkets with crap like "30% more!!!". Then you read the small print and it says something like "30% more than our 5oz. version". Here it's "Hey guys, check out this dedicated LEFTY VERSION........(we moved the clip to the other side and it costs 5 dollars more)......Hey! Hey! Look over here! It's DEDICATED to LEFTIES......(we could have made this clip reversible but we needed a way to differentiate this titanium slab knife from our other titanium slab knives, plus it uses the same clip as the Crux/Falcon) *Waves hands in front of everyone's faces* LEFTIES!"

YabosMcGeeReality is that lefty specific options for any product, not just knives carry additional costs associated, specifically retooling machines to accomodate the options. Secondly for lefty-specific options, in general, there is less demand so there is less volume made which means cost per piece is higher. Thirdly, left-handed product stays on shelves longer. So prices are increased to recover cost faster than right handed models. I understand you are dissatisfied with simply a flipped clip. Its better than nothing. I'm i'm willing to support the company that supports left handed options.

Aren't "Massdrop Made" products like this knife supposed to be restocked and available pretty much all the time? I emailed MD support to ask when the plain versions would be available again and the response I received confused me as the rep suggested I hit "request drop" for the plain versions. I don't even think that feature is available for "Massdrop Made" products.

NikoToscaniOur support team helps members with post-sale issues, but they don't have any insight into when products are restocked. You're correct that the "Request" button is not product-specific, but we'll have more coming soon.

JonasHeinemanFair enough but Massdrop reps should not be sending out responses that are obviously incorrect, right? If you don't know the answer, find someone who does. Don't just wing it and invent an answer that may or may not be correct.

Awsome knife, fit and finish are perfect , blade centering his perfect , The Blade detent perfect , and the flipping action and drop shuttyness is a 10. This knife looks and feels like it should cost twice as much So get one while you can or get 2.

I was excited to see a knife listed with a left-hand specific version. I just received the knife and I am disappointed. The knife is NOT designed for left handers, it just has the clip installed on the opposite side so it can be carried in the left pocket. The frame lock is still designed for right-handers, so it is know on the opposite side of the knife from the clip, just like what you would get with any reversable clip knife. It does seem like a nice knife otherwise, but I feel deceived thinking I was getting a left-hand knife not just a knife with the clip reversed.
