Very nice knife, beautiful execution and design, but isn't $200 a tad high? I thought the advantage of Drop was to be able to get these kind of exclusives at a lower price due to volume sales?
Unless Elmax is soooooooooo expensive that $200 is still an awesome deal?
Omniseedits funny how these 'hard use' knife companies run their steel softer to increase toughness. if i needed more toughness, i am using the wrong tool
glad to hear chris reeves knives decided recently to start hardening their s35vn 'properly' now
Quiet Carry's pocket carry is understated and exceptionally well built. Quiet Carry's Bryce Alexander methodically designs, uses best in class components and delivers with clean, sleek & under-assuming presentation that surprises with tough performance. As Bryce states:
The overall design concept was to create an EDC knife that is discreet and can crossover as something you can carry to the office or even dress up a notch more depending on the finish. Jeans to slacks and dress wear, and rides in the inside coat pocket well.
We are proud to be releasing the The IQ Knife in our own Drop rendition with a tactile easy pluck out of the pocket.
For what it’s worth I think you can make a good quality knife outside of the USA but it should be waaaay cheaper. You can get a TRM for under $200 and they’re 20cv small batch made in USA.
Tnea0926First off, just because they say Made in USA doesn't mean that every part and material used were sourced domestically. Same goes for any other country if origin. As far as QC is concerned, it says right there that the parts are manufactured in Taiwan.
Yes, TRM's products represent an excellent value. Arguably, one of, if not, the very best in the industry. Stands to reason that some competitor's products may fall a little short. And, good luck actually getting your hands on one.
I was waiting for this drop a lot but now I'll continue to wait until Drop recognizes how terribly overpriced this knife is and discounts it to $140 where it should be (with Drop logo on it) considering the $189 retail price of the original Quiet Carry. Or will just pick up an original on the secondary market. This is not a good value.
No, the one you linked to does not have the same textured machining on the show side this one does. And, having five options doesn't make these two options worth any less. I don't know how much more Elmax costs, just that it does. Besides the different machining, I'm not saying this version offers more value than those sold on the QC website. Of course, these are (were) actually available for purchase. It definitely offers value over the WE made offerings, though. Additionally, I didn't say that Drop makes smaller batches than QC. I said that QC produces their knives in small batches, as opposed to WE's mass production of knives. Also, I didn't say the knives were manufactured in the US. I said they are assembled in the US, using materials and parts that are all sourced outside of China. Your reading comprehension skills are truly terrible.
$200? $200!!??!! Are you f*cking serious with this BS!? See, I just thought that the folks at drop were sometimes hitting the bong a little too hard with that grand daddy purp, but after seeing this, I'm convinced they moved on to something harder, and now are smocking crack. Like, how high do you have to be to think this knife is worth $200!? It's not even a 3 inch blade!! I'll admit, it looks cool, and is pretty sleek. It kind of looks like my qwaiken I own from Quarter Master, which I actually paid $200 for because it was in a run of only 300, made of titanium, just shy of a 4inch blade, and made in Texas. You know, AMERICA. yet this little SOB is the same price!? Yo, na. Drop be buggin'. They got their heads in a cloud...of crack smoke.
JediJonIt's cute that you think your QRTRMSTR was made in Texas. And, that you think blade length factors, in any significant way, into the value of a knife. These aren't exotic materials.
JediJonJust as an FYI this dude is a troll and a idiot. Of all the companies he used to compare Quiet Carry to he picked the one that is well know for stealing designs and was caught stating they made their knives in the US when in fact they are made in China.
Not sure how he hasn't been banned from posting yet looking at his post history.
Quiet Carry may sell legitimate products, but I do not trust the vague multiple overseas parts outsourcing, especially when priced at $200. There are many other competitive products without the mystery. It reminds me too much of another "manufacturer" with the hidden factory.
Drop....please for the love of everything holy stop putting your branding on these fine designs. Nothing worse than seeing massdrop or drop billboarded on a super sleek Tashi bharucha or Gavko design.
On a THX amp it doesn’t matter and is cool because you came up with it, on a beautiful sleek knife, independently designed, it is a total deal breaker. I would have bought 4 of your knife collab’s by now if they were not branded. I’m not a hater of Drop at all, they have given me a “Ballin’ on a budget” headphone setup and I appreciate their market approach. Just my .02$
Been waiting on this intently... Their main site has been out of stock for a century so ordering it here as a collab is the next best thing. I want my hands on that Elmax and design!
The failure to provide answers to my questions about HRC and the Cryo treatment leads me no alternative but to think about buying that new Cold Steel Kris. Of course, if you told me the the HRC was 58 and the cryo treatment was dry ice, that info would lead me to the same place.
Thank you! I have the chance to have to speak English daily at work, and I have to admit this daily practice made a huge difference in my proficiency! And I love English, that's one of those languages where I feel like the way words sound does convey their meaning really well, I often can get more or less what an English word means even if I don't know it, just from the way it sounds.
It is really super interesting to know about other people's vision about languages "oddities", as a French what I find amusing with English is that an English word can often have multiple meanings (like "dull" for instance ^^), whereas with French that's often the opposite, we have a myriad of different words to express a single thing. But that's also what I love about French and I guess that's one of the things that make it so hard to learn for foreigners, there are so many words to say a thing, and most of them bring a slight different nuance to your sentence, allowing you to either really express exactly what you meant, or sound like an idiot. (and to be honest, even most Frenchies can't speak French properly, so I won't blame foreigners having a hard time with it, haha!)
In case you (or anyone else) are interested, I just ordered one directly from QuietCarry (the black Ti+CF version), and as they didn't have Elmax blades left, they offered me to replace it with a CPM20CV one, which I'm quite happy about. Thought I would share the info, as it might still be possible to get a 20CV one! (which to me feels like a nice upgrade, but I don't want to start a steels war, Elmax is great too! But having a blade steel different from the usual one makes it a bit more "exclusive", and 20CV is a really great steel)
