Is it advisable to use an interconnect that has RCA on one end and a 3-pin XLR on the other, or is one with RCA on each end just as good? I don’t have a DAC with balanced outputs.
UsehernameYou can just use RCA, no need to use an adapter (in fact it would be strongly advised to NOT use an adapter) as it can take both inputs. If you get a DAC with balanced outs, you can switch then, but you otherwise are not required to use it.
postwarscarsSorry, I didn’t mention an adapter. There are cables terminated with RCA on one end and 3-pin XLR on the other. The manual isn’t clear or doesn’t offer any help. I realize that I can just use RCA. I would be coming out of my DAC’s RCA outs and was wondering if it was safe/recommended to use a cable like I described to feed into the 789’s rear 3-pin XLR inputs. I also realize that if I would use a balanced DAC I wouldn’t have a choice but to use balanced interconnects with XLR terminations at both ends. Excuse me but I’m still new to this. I’m glad I can still enjoy my 789 single ended.
UsehernameTechnically those are still adapters. There would be no benefit in using them that way, regardless. Just stick to RCA, it'll keep the confusion to a minimum.
postwarscarsGood advice, thanks. I got a balanced cable in the mail today for my Focal Elear’s and I love them again. They were a bit too fatiguing running them single ended. I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth now. Thanks for your advice! Maybe I’ll get a balanced DAC in the future. I got a CorpseCable Gravedigger cardas cable. My second CC purchase. No regrets.
