Just so everyone knows, this product is not produced by Enlightened Equipment. They use the same materials but it is produced over seas. Source: Toured their factory in Winona, Mn.

Right now the off-the-shelf Revelations are sewn in China, filled in Minnesota. Off-the-shelf Enigmas appear to still be 100% Minnesotan (and therefore are nicer than bags made in other states ;-D
In an article I read, Tim had this to say:
"“Time is our biggest challenge,” Marshal added. “I think we lose more customers to time than any other brand or company out there making gear. We can’t grow fast enough, launch new products soon enough, or deliver products quick enough. Time is our biggest frustration.”"
My take on the matter is that demand for EE products exceeded supply. Instead of raising prices to curb demand, they have chosen to offload the simplest sewing to a Chinese manufacturer in order to meet demand.
I haven't heard of massive layoffs at EE, which would be the case if they were outsourcing solely to lower costs. I'm sure the lower manufacturing costs over there aren't unappreciated though ;-)
As much as I love cottage gear, I would not wait 12 weeks for a custom quilt. So I, for one, appreciate the move.
BWinonaGreetings from the Enlightened Equipment team! It's true! These Enigmas are made in Winona, MN. Actually, we are about to start cutting the Green Tea and Moroccan Blue fabric as we speak! Happy Camping!

It's been three years since the Ultralight Community was started here on Massdrop and one of our first drops was the EE Revelation. I'm so excited to announce that we finally are able to offer you a drop on the EE Enigma! You've been asking for it and voting on it for three years!
These are made in Winona, MN and ready to ship as soon as the drop ends. The shell/liner colorway is already set and predetermined by the temp rating (like all 40 degree Enigmas will be the black/forest). Stock is limited so jump on this quickly. Let me know if you have any questions.

DannyMilksWhy would you post the X-Long and X-Wide sizes but not have them as options? More and more I'm being disappointed by Massdrop for not carrying options for above average sized folks. It is possible for someone 6'5" and 230lbs. to enjoy outdoor activities and be interested in ultralight gear. There have been multiple drops I've had to pass up because the necessary size wasn't available even though it is an option from the manufacturer. Why is it larger sizes are not made available to the community? Is it lack of demand? Perhaps it's time to start a new community for those of us that fall outside of average body sizes? I know I'm not the only user with this issue. Can this be addressed in some way?

1 commited and 10 degree regular/wide is sold out. Meaning there was only 1 such quilt in the drop. That's sucks...

Wish there was a 0 degree option like on EE's website...I already have a 20 degree Revelation, so getting the 10 degree doesn't make as much sense.

I was debating between the 30 and 20. What was more important, ounces or warmth? Turns out color is more important... I just couldn't go with that orange. So that meant the 20 bag. Not my favorite, but better than orange!
But then, for only 2.5oz more, I could get the bag with the exact colors I would choose were I to order a custom bag...
I never thought I was prone to form over function (purple color in exchange for 5oz...) but there it is. (And thank goodness I'm short, as there was still a 10 quilt left!)

That's very good to hear re: short length and regular width (I wasn't sure if I should custom order a wide). I don't plan on pulling it over my head (I'm 5'3"). I do need to figure out head insulation... don't own a backpacking hooded down jacket, nor a stand alone hood. Just hats and scarves and a stiff balaclava that would be too uncomfortable for sleep.

CardamomteaSleep is very individual thing. What works great for 1 person just doesn't cut it for the next, sometimes even if they're the same sex and body size. My friend on other side of tent may be loving the ba pad I could not fall asleep on for the life of me. I have been fine with.just a beanie for colder nights. I'm getting a "snood" to more cover my head, neck, and face for colder temps. I love my Revelation!!

I would be in, in a heartbeat, if you added more 10° Wide/Longs. Why were there so few??

is "girth" measurement the same as shoulder size on a shirt? if not, how do we measure "girth"? TIA.

wintermuttGirth is the total width of the quilt if you open it up and lay it flat, so this does pertain to the shoulder area. Always go with the biggest girth that you can afford. For example, I have 2 of their quilts and I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs, and I go with the Xwide/Xlong and it's pure luxury. I find that a bigger girth is almost more important than a longer length, as you want the quilt to easily drape over you with some extra material on each side which eliminates drafts.

wintermuttPulled pretty snug and measured. I think they have some helpful measuring hints on their website/blog but the easiest way is to either compare to a bag/quilt that you already have, or have a helper measure from pad/floor, over your body and to the other side in what is maybe your "bulkiest" sleeping position. The actual quilt measurement is often off a tad but nothing to worry about. If you're opting for a cold-weather bag (20F and below) sometimes they seem to shrink a tad due to having more down in there, so if you're on the edge of their width for a model then it would be smart to bump up to the next wider one for the small weight penalty. A couple inches doesn't seem like anything when you look at it but sometimes it makes all the difference in not getting drafty, especially if you aren't using the straps. Most sleeping bags have a 60" girth and most regular quilts are 52"-54", so the wider you go the closer you are getting to a normal sleeping bag, but of course still saving a lot of weight usually with the omission of the hood and by using ul fabrics. It's good to keep it smaller and right-sized if weight is a primary target concern and if you still get the coverage you need to seal heat in.

Is this 100% not made in China, meaning it is sewn, constructed and filled in the USA?
