Simple, easy to use
Great little desktop complement to most setups. Be advised that the proprietary software from epos can introduce some microphone issues for some programs. For me, the microphone worked fine for everything except two specific video games, for which I had to make a workaround. Otherwise, the unit itself and the software are imminently usable and provide a little more fine tuning for your audio inputs and outputs. Seeing some of the other reviews mention the poor quality of the software... for what it is worth: I've had this device about a month and a half now, and have only had the one (easily solved) microphone issue.

Works as advertised
I had bad luck using Sennheiser talking headset terminated with separate connections for microphone and headphones with any sound card: the mic signal was practically non-existent. With this device it works fine and sounds great. Did not use the software.

Good DAC, HORRIBLE Software!
The DAC itself is very nice. No problems with the Hardware itself. BUT DO NOT Install their crappy EPOS Gaming Suite Software. Its the worst piece of Software that I have ever installed and actively makes your experience worse! Broken features and buggy drivers even after 2 years of people complaining. Luckily you don't need it, they just REALLY want you to install it.

Perfect for my use case
I use this on my racing sim rig with a V-moda BoomPro. I can't comment on its sound reproduction as I don't use it for music. I've personally had no issues with it.

I needed a DAC to use for my music on PC and found this!
Small, DAC fits well on my desk, easy to use. I installed the software and am currently using it but can't figure out how to get the eq and sound profiles to work. Need to do a little more troubleshooting but the sound seems much better and cleaner than using the headphone out from my PC. Also cleared up an issue I had with glitchy and distorted sound as I did work on my computer.

Great on Windows not-so-much on other OSes
First, this is very much a Windows only device. Plugging it into my Mac or Linux boxen and its audio profile is flat. No amount processing on the machine will improve it. However, on Windows 10 this produces some great audio. What sucks is the mic input. I'm using Sennheiser PC37X headphones and the boom mic isn't picked up at all. Not even in Windows. If you're looking for an external audio device for your Windows machine this is for you. Just don't expect to use it as an audio input device.

barkgnarMics vary greatly in their sensitivity. Generally dynamic mics have very low output levels, but electret mics have higher outputs while phantom powered condenser mics have much higher output. They are all lower than line level though & for that reason an analogue input gain control is essential to achieve a good result. Dynamic mics are generally meant for use right up close to source or to mic extremely loud sounds. They are almost always useless at even mid range distances. This is why you see vocalists almost swallowing their mic, it's to get the highest possible signal gain from the mic. Headset mics would tend to be the dynamic type. If the soundcard doesn't have a suitable analogue preamp gain control for the mic input, the result will tend to suck. Sure, you can boost the level digitally, but it will still suck because the bit fidelity is poor after a weak analogue input is digitised. It is much much better if you can can achieve unity analogue signal before digitisation. Even many audio interfaces struggle to provide sufficient preamp input gain to properly interface with pro dynamic mics and phantom powered mic preamps are sometimes needed in pro audio studio & PA for this reason, but then your going to need balanced XLR connectivity for that. Generally speaking though, any device that does both analogue audio input & output, needs to have separate analogue gains for both input & output. The input gain particularly needs to have an extreme range, or you will have to use some kind of powered preamp booster on the mic line. That's just how it is with mics.

Not the best option
This product just broke on me only after a few months of use, seems like its a common issue with this product. google "GSX 300 not detected". Alot of people on reddit pretty much needing to return their dacs... The software for it was pretty neat too. I've already messaged support to see my options. Since I've seen some nicer dacs on here for better prices, I probably wouldn't tell a friend to buy this

moondog9Hey, I was kind of mad when I wrote this review. The dac came back to life randomly, and again seems to have died. Its cool, don't get me wrong! EDIT: ended up getting the Sound Blaster X3, and it's been pretty great to use, in comparison to the EPOS competition at least

Great if you don't install EPOS' driver/software
Works great as an individual unit for a stationary usb -> line out + mic for use with the long cable that comes with the PC38X and any other headphones. The audio quality is great, I don't have perfect ears, so I can't gauge it based on that really, but I haven't heard any issues. Attempting to use EPOS' gaming suite software + driver or whatever it is causes the device's audio quality to noticeably drop to nil, and I quickly treated it as an unwanted program and driver and uninstalled it. I do not know if it was a software issue or something, but I did not feel any value in attempting to debug the issue.

If you need an adapter, here ya go!
Me calling this an amp is a bit of a complement, this probably isn’t going to be any louder than you were on board audio. But for a clean dac with a mic input, this is perfectly fine!

Temporary product, Good while it lasts
This external sound card is really good until it ends up not working. This lasted only around 5 months where it suddenly stopped working. Which based off many other reviews on here, this sound card tends to die after a few months of use. It was a very disappointing thing for me. Using it with my PC38x and HD58x it was great, but as it died I am having to shell out a bit more cash for a better external dac/amp and be hopeful that it should last a lot longer than this.
