Can this be used as a Pc bluetooth transmitter? If so, how much latency does it add?

KUNGPAOYes according to the product page. It reads "As a bluetooth transmitter: LDAC/aptX/aptX HD/SBC (both natively from the player and through USB DAC)." Not sure about the latency though.

I've had a trusty Ipod Nano 5th gen for several years and love it. It's the only Apple product I've ever owned and I like it because it had 16gb of storage, very small size, and good battery life. Unfortunately, it's starting to show it's age so I'm looking around for something similar in size, good battery life, and good sound. My question is directed at anyone who has owned the same: Apple no longer makes the Nano so would the FIIO M7 fit the bill as a worthy replacement? It's slightly cheaper than the Nano was new but offers way more storage with an SD card.

Keebler808Something closer to the size of the Nano would be the Shanling Q1, which also has a slightly higher power output than the M7.

Amazon had the FiiO M7 on sale last weekend for $99.99 (directly from FiiO). It might happen again, as FiiO has a tendency to release new models all the time, which leads to markdowns. I've been using mine for the past two weeks (Amazon price matched, since it was $119.99 when I bought it a week earlier), and am really enjoying it with Poweramp as the player instead of the stock FiiO player. Note that even though it is listed as not having Wi-Fi capabilities, it actually has a Wi-Fi chip that is just disabled in the firmware. You can enable the Wi-Fi by installing and using the Quick Settings open source app by F-Droid. This is useful for confirming your Poweramp license online and any other brief connections where you need network access. I imagine if you tried using it for streaming or anything more intensive, the battery would drain pretty rapidly. Sound quality is good, on par with or better than the Cambridge Audio DacMagic XS USB DAC I have (which uses a similar DAC chip if I recall correctly), and can be EQ'd fairly well within Poweramp. I mainly use it as a portable source fed into a dedicated USB headphone amp, but have not noticed a huge drop in quality driving through its amp directly. Well worth the money.

I had a Fiio X5 which I loved, and then replaced with an X5ii, which I love even more. I also have the Fiio Montblanc E12 headphone amp. My primary use for the Fiio products is for air travel -- paired with a series of Bose Quietcomfort noise cancelers, they've been terrific. I've got better phones I use at home, but the Bose are more than adequate when in the air. I just ordered the M7 after careful consideration, and this is why: Storage: I carry my entire music collection on the X5ii, using two 256 gig cards. That's an absolute requirement for me because I like to be free to choose whatever strikes me at the moment. The M7 will handle 512 gig cards, and the price for those has dropped dramatically. Bluetooth: I've recently picked up a pair of Bose QC35 noise cancelers. They're not aptX, but they're not bad when paired with a good enough NON-LOSSY source, e.g. flac, which is how I store all my music. I can use them with my other Fiio products with a Taotronics Bluetooth transmitter, but it's an extra piece of hardware, albeit a small one, to carry with me. The M7's built-in Bluetooth, and support for a variety of Bluetooth formats, makes it preferable to X5. And, I can still use it with my wired phones and the E12. Battery life: The M7 is up to 20 hours, 4 hours better than the X5. My longest flights are 16 hours, plus another few hours in the terminal and for gate holds. The M7 should handle the whole trip. Size: the weight and size savings in comparison to the X5, though not dramatic, is still significant. FM: Before I switched to Fiio products, I used to have a Sony iPod. The one feature I used which isn't replicated by my Fiios was an FM tuner. I liked to use it in airport terminals to listen to NPR. FM capability in the M7 is the icing on the cake. The rest of the specs are comparable: I expect high-quality HD audio, enough power to drive my wired phones sans amplifier if absolutely necessary, and Fiio's usual excellent build quality. At $110 it seems an easy choice.

PTravelI was excited about the FM radio as well when I got the M7, albeit when I got it I realized that it uses the headphone cable as antenna, thus there is no way of using a BT headphone once you plug the wires headphone in. I wish there was a way to plug a headphone to use as antenna while still be able to listen to FM via a BT headset

LJohnnyYes, I noticed that. However, the Bose QC35 work wired, too, so I'll just carry the small and light cable in the carrying case.

The M7 seems a tad worse than the M6... at least in terms of connectivity and UI. Looking to either get the M6 or hold out and get an M9. Thoughts?

HobzI'd check out their support forums at www.fiio.me and see what surprises were experienced by other users of the M6, 7 and 9 and how many of those problems (er, umm, I mean surprises) still haven't been fixed. If it were me I would pass on all of them because they are all built on what is now an antiquated chipset and the software developers at Fiio don't seem to know what QA is before they release a "deeply customized" version of the Android OS.

HobzI just got a fiio m6. I'm having issues streaming Spotify. I'm thinking about returning it and just buying a mid tier dap, thinking ibasso 160. The limited Android on the m6 just doesn't seem worth cutting back.

According the the DAC chips spec sheet data; these should provide a perfect ‘line out’ into amplifiers etc. Its weakness would be towards (trying to drive) studio over ear headphones >250 Ohm. This really is for IEMs with easy power requirements, and anyone wanting a ‘vastly better’ than phone quality sound and a dedicated device for holding multimedia and not being interrupted with phone messages etc whilst enjoying music. As a DAP it might not push ahead of the best phones output power, but at this price it isn’t meant to. For what it is; it will give music that sounds musical. Anyone who compares familiar music on analytical headphones in a quiet listening space will realise ‘pretty quickly’ that phones don’t really hold a candle to clean sound ‘done right’. DAPs are not always about ‘more power to drive’ but rather ‘better music to drive to’ ;-) I have often fed music from entry level DAPs and DACs into the car AUX In with the net effect being vastly wider soundstage, better, ‘more nuanced’ fidelity, and a much more ‘enjoyable’ listening experience. This price tier of DigitalAudioPlayers’ do not prove ‘end game’ / a tier better than the BEST phones (around a handful of phones that equate to ‘entry level’ DAPs), but the price difference is 10:1 in this devices favour. If someone wanted a DAP that left behind, easily, the BEST phones, something like Drops’ recent FiiO X5s would leave no comparison. Dedicated audio parts, built right, offer a level of sound most consumers are unfamiliar with. This part is the ‘doorway’ to that sound quality. Worthwhile to consider, and a definate consideration for anyone wanting a portable music collection to feed into outboard power amps etc. (Phones have too many interruptions that would make playback into, say, a Cafes’ sound system, completely unacceptable). for business owners on a budget who just want nice music fed into their amp and speakers, with a playlist that runs all day without repeat.. something like this is easy to use, easy to update, and doesn’t cost ‘the earth’.
