Considering that this is completely dependent upon the ability to play music stored on it, you would think...I dunno, that they might tell you things like how much storage it has, and how big of an SD card it can take...
lol, let it go? Hypocritical much?...you came here ten days after the last comment to ramble on back & forth with yourself over information not even relevant to the initial discussion. 🤷♂️
And I never accused you of anything...Paranoia setting in? 👻
Stay away from this player like the plague. It’s the worst dap I’ve ever used. Software is a real joke and Bluetooth takes about 1 minute just to turn on. Hahahaha. The worst purchase of my life. Bought it about 1 year or so ago and sold it within 2 weeks. FiiO daps are crappy. The worst to use. Stay away.
aceedburnGood to know. I was trying to see how much storage is available on it didn't find out there is no internal storage until I saw comments. Thanks for the heads up.
Only 256GBs... Pity, I have a 512GB sdcard with over 300GBs on it that is readable on my current Dap. I wouldn’t mind picking up this FiiO, but not if its sdcard storage tops out at 256GBs. 😟
InvisibleInkI have an older Fiio machine; with a 400GB microSD card. It reads it just fine. Usually, companies will tell you they are compatible with "up to xGB", where "x" is simply as high as it was commonly available at the time, little has changed in the standard for SD cards in years, so most devices that supported card of "up to 64GB" are perfectly happy reading (or writing) onto a 256GB card (or any other storage you may have around).
That said, it's also a liability issue. This "limit" may very well be just a means for FiiO to claim you're misusing the device if you happen to have a problem with it.
AmJoshI don't know how it compares. It's just I already have an LG G7 that I'm using for audio consumption (among other things). Its sound quality is high enough that I don't need to purchase another gadget.
As a general comment about FiiO DAP's - it's not just the X3 or X5 - I had the X7 and performance was dire - and by that I mean you tap something on screen and have literally 1-3 seconds before something happens. Unresponsive isn't even close - it's barely functional.
Sounds great, but awful interface due to very under powered hardware. I have no doubt the audio components are top notch - it sounded great, but the hardware for the OS to run is clearly lacking. The Android version isn't the newest, but even so the hardware can't handle it. I paid for a custom FiiO ROM called Fidelizer which tweaks the hardware to its absolute maximum - very aggressive on memory and app usage, and yet with the bare minimum it was still dire.
Avoid FiiO like the plague. Including the amp modules, case, and custom ROM I sank about £850/$1000 into the FiiO X7 - sold it for £330/$450 recently after a good 2 years of beginning to hate listening to music.
I now have a fluid performing DAP (Panasonic XDP-100R) which sounds maybe 85% as good but is actually enjoyable to listen to music with.
Mouseboy007Did you mean Pioneer XDP-100R instead of Panasonic? I did not like my FiiO X5 (3rd gen) either, mainly due to the UI. It sounded good though.
FMDLNTDoh! Yes, Pioneer! Weirdly the person I sold my X7 to already had the X5 3rd Gen and was happy with the slow buggy interface and was planning on getting his wife one and instead bought my X7 and gave his X5 to his wife. I really wanted to sell it, but I also really drummed home to the guy that the UI is god awful. Glad he's happy though. Sound was great, UI awful - very happy with my PIONEER (Not Panasonic)
One of the best Music Players for the money. I love the sound that comes out of this baby. It drives my Sennheiser HD6XX and even RHA CL1 (120 Ohm) very well.
Two Audio IC for balanced playback is something to behold at that pricepoint as well.
The Design feels good, the inner Mother- and Sisterboards are well produced and the battery holds a charge for forever.
For beginners and adept audiophiles, this will be an excellent choice. The massdrop+ Universal IEM with a balanced cable and the ifi audio iEmatch 2.5 make this a combo, who will leave many without a longing for more. ;)
This player has never function as advertised. For years Fiio promised that a future firmware update would resolve the list of problems until one day that they effectively just gave up on it. Go to their support forums at Fiio.me and you'll see one complaint after another. This is the Delorean of DAPs....buy it at your own risk. If you want a constant source of aggravation then this is your player.
