Great headphones for the price....if you get new pads.
Being an entry level headphone hoarder, how could I say no to these?! Naturally, MD advertised these as the 250ohms, but at checkout only had the 80ohms available. Which I guess is fine. (again) for the price, still a great deal! The 2 sets of pads that come with are pretty crappy. Especially the thick angled ones. Total trash. They sound hollow and flat. I replaced them with a set of Brainwavz Angled Memory Foam Earpads that I got for 23 bucks (https://amzn.to/2pmpUnV). Job done! They sounds pretty sweet. I know you can do more to these to make them sound even better (google the modding community on these suckers), but I mostly just use these for gaming and they sound nearly perfect for that! I can safely say that for gaming, they are pretty on par with my ATHAD700X's and much better suited than the AKG 7XX's. The ATHAD700X's have a slight edge due to, what I can only describe as, ATHAD700X's haunting ambient quality. In some games, there are normal sounds that just make you want to poop your pants! The Fostex's just dont have that magic. But still they are fun to use. They sound great, and added bonus, they dont look as dorky as the 700X's. Which brings me to something that I dont like about the TR-70's. The cans dont have much movement to them. just up and down. Which is annoying because they dont fit right on my head. The angled earpads fix that, thankfully, but with regular earpads, the cups dont make a seal in the back of my ears. Also they need to make the arms tighter, every time I put them on I have to adjust them to fit. I guess the zip-tie mod on the arms are a thing for a reason... All in all I'm quite happy with these headphones. I like modding and I like open back headphones, so these are totally up my alley!

Great pair of comfortable headphones
I use headphones for TV and gaming because my neighbors act like the sky is falling when they hear the tiniest sound through the wall. The TR-70 steps in for an old, mediocre set of cans I always meant to replace. These have a beautiful design—they just look cool—coupled with great sound and superior product quality. The headphones deliver crisp audio through the soft, comfy ear cups. Despite the bulk of the 'phones, they're quite comfortable to wear for extended periods. And the most important thing: they sound great. Clear, balanced, and rich. The box includes a spare set of ear cups, a LONG straight cord, a shorter curly cord, both of which have threaded ends so you can screw in the 1/4" adapter. I wish the long straight cord were braided and silk-wrapped (it's the standard rubbery cord material) to reduce tangling and twisting, but that's a small complaint. The only thing these headphones are missing is an on-set volume control. Otherwise, it's an outstanding pair of headphones for a reasonable price.

Great for music
Overall these headphones are great. The soundscape and sound quality are close to my AKG K7XX’s. The only issue that I’ve had is that when I watch something with them the dialogue seems to come exclusively from the right side. That said when listening to music I have no issues.

Initial thoughts after a few days of random use: Likes: They can take the same or similar pad and strap mods as the RP series. High impedance. Spare cups and cables. Visually pleasing. Dislikes: They've the same basic headband that is used in the RP series, slightly uncomfortable over a long period of time. They use a custom locking TRRS... so it is nearly impossible to make a proper custom cable. Thoughts: While I'm generally a fan of Foster/Fostex, I'm not terribly enthusiastic about these cans. They need modding to be useful as daily drivers. They're not too bad with tube amps, thankfully, seeing that is all I've been using more or less since they arrived. The V sound profile seems to work well enough with the ZDT Jr. and thankfully they're not prone to sibilance like the Foster OEM drivers tend to be. They've very bass forward, and worked surprisingly well with blues and jazz. I'm sure they're get some use, just not primary rotation without mod. As they currently stand, I can't handle them for more than an hour at a stretch. I don't regret buying them, I just won't suggest anyone else does such unless they plan to mod the crap out of them. They do sound better than most 75$ cans do... so there is that. Update: I'd still give these about a 3.5 star. Initial complaints are still there. That said, I've given them a chance on the CTH and not been overly unhappy. For my listening today I used playlist comprised of Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brother Band, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Eagles, Mountain, The Doors, The Who, Jethro Tull, and Black Sabbath. Anything that has heavy bass and prominent strings really shine on these cans, that V sound in action. For extended use I think I'd need to roll the higher frequencies off a little bit via EQ. Update 2: A month and a half in. Now that they've fully broken in and have had their pads swapped, I'm liking them a lot more. They work great on all of my high impedance sources (CTH, ZDT, and AX-501) and are comfortable. I ended up putting them into my primary headphone rotation. If they show up again at a stupid good price, the TR-70-250 is very much so worth it. Not the best, by far not the worst. My biggest complaint at this point is that stupid proprietary headphone locking socket. Is standard TRRS, but that socket requires custom plastic or an ullllllltra slim connector. These cans would very much benefit from balanced drive. Update 3: Just about four months in. These are great cans, and have kept in my primary rotation, especially for tube amp use. I'm still a bit miffed about the socket on the headphones requiring custom plastic, but I survive. Mind you, this is why I call these 4 star instead of 5. It is the one piece that isn't easily modded on these, and the one needed to fully unlock the potential of the drivers. I finally got around to installing a Mr. Speakers Leather Comfort Strap. Absolutely worth it. Same style of strap the Fostex T60RP uses. Same type that the MassDrop x Fostex T-X0 I & II use. Possibly the best mod for any of these Fostex cans of the T-RP styling. It is instant comfort without the need for additional padding.

HertxzBrainwavz Sheepskin Leather Angled Memory Foam Earpad - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J53WTUQ/ I found the angled pads to be super comfortable on my T50RP MK3, figured they’d work for the TR-70. They do, rather nicely. Please be aware, I buy pads for comfort, not audio quality. :)
