I also had a fake OPA2134 chip in my X6. I bought a genuine OPA2143PA and LM4562NA chip directly from Texas Instruments for around $12 shipped. Replaced the chip and 100% of the distortion is gone.
My fake OPA2134 also had the painted on dot instead of the dimple on the genuine chip.
Hello, I have an issue with the DAC and the Netflix app on Windows 10, currently using the dac with my Sennheiser HD 598, without an AMP. But when I start the Netflix app I hear a very very loud crackling/noise sound. I don't want to risk breaking my headphones, is this possible?
How do I fix this issue? Thanks!
Had same crackling/static on a unit from Amazon. There's a few things to do before giving up on the unit.
1- if you're using a USB 3.0 or 3.1 port/hub move to a USB 2.0 port
2- make sure you're power cable isn't in contact with any high current cables. Would prefer shielded cable but meh
3- the USB cable that's included doesn't have very good shielding for an audio cable and looks more like a printer cable, AudioQuest and Pangea make true audio versions but then you're talking cables that can cost more than the dac. If you have or can borrow a better cable great, if not just move it away from other cables and stabilize it so it doesn't move around.
I have a feeling this cable^ has strand distortion and is causing a lot of problems for the people using it.
Still crackling=RMA
nurseebolHad the same issue, turned out the OP2134 is a fake rebadged chip. Replaced it with a new genuine one from Digi-Key, and the issue is gone, no noise, no distortion. Easy fix for about $7. You can also opt for the LM4562 at $2.50, I can't tell the difference between them.
buckchorrisMy crackling is totally gone but now I'm gonna have to tear it apart since it came from Amazon and see if their units have the same chip. Ty for the info
Guess I have a defective unit, same issue as @zachThePerson : if the PC volume is over 40% ish, the audio coming out of the DAC X-6 has distortion, fizzes and scratches, as if the input is too loud for the DAC. With the volume at 40% on the PC, I can crank the volume on the DAC X-6 all the way to the top, and it's then just barely loud. The same headphones, plugged directly to the PC audio out, or audio out of desktop speakers, go way way louder, and remain clear, clean, and distortion free.
Same results from two different PCs, USB and optical, multiple audio sources. Same issue is present from the line out of the DAC X-6.
Waiting on DROP to get a RMA...
Does anyone know if I have a FiiO E10K and use HD58X // Beyer mmx300v2 will this amp/dac be an upgrade/downgrade/ or side grade? Or would I be better off saving for a schitt hel/fulla.
DeviledeggsIt's probably a minor upgrade at best meaning not a great purchase. The fulla might be all you need while the hel is like a fulla on steroids. Spend a tad more and you can get what I feel is close enough endgame gear: Topping D10s and Schitt heresy. Granted, a single unit like the hel is somewhat preferred.
New to this whole thing. Before now I've just relied on a single receiver, but it doesn't contain a phono input. Can this DAC be used as a preamp for a phono input? It looks like DACs contain preamps, but I there are limitations to them which was just went over my head.
Keyumarsiirc there are un amplified rca connectors on the rear panel, not certain but if you don't get a quick response here try r/headphoneadvice or r/zeos
Output power of headphone amp: 520mW@16Ω / 450mW@32Ω / 250mW@64Ω /165mW@120Ω
They use the same components it seems but there is a major discrepancy in power output levels especially at 32 ohms which is the likely number we are all chasing for the most part. This could be a misrepresentation that needs to be corrected...
cavilikonI used to have passive speaker, but Im using edifier now. I did try to run the X6 using coax to my edifier and also run the Tube-03 (buffer amp) to Edifier. For me, with the Tube-03 it sounded warmer and better for my taste :)
