@Notsurewhyibother Yeah, it's nice to see those serviceable carbide cutters again! And the angled screwdriver looks sensible. I have the same on an old Gerber tool from about 15 years ago. In the first week, two spring tabs snapped off just from opening the tool. After soldering new tabs in, it's been fine. So yep, I'd say your caution is definitely warranted!
I agree, Leatherman all the way. Gerber used to make nice knives in the '90s (I have a decent hunting knife from that era, when they were made in USA) but the last few Gerber multi-tools I've owned have felt and performed like dollar store toys compared to my Leatherman tools. I've you're going to spend that much money, go for the Leatherman Wave. Basically the same tool set as the Surge, just a smaller package.
Benslen15I carry the Surge for the replaceable files and saws and the outside-opening larger scissors. The tradeoff is the extra weight and size. The wave is perfect if you don't use the file or saw much.
