Hot off the press: Check out time stamp 7:30 before you order, one of the good reviewers out there in my opinion. https://youtu.be/kS1bhzRe-Kk

Usually I ignore such comments but... on higher end gears it is not uncommon to need from approx 2 weeks to up to several months before the materials in components has taken their designers intended state for actions. It can relate to a bias in the material from factory that has to be normalized, degaussed in some cases. Oscillators needs about 2 weeks to stabilize. On capacitors there may be irregularities in the dielectriums in capacitors that has to even out with "melting". On mechanical parts a certain stiffness has to be loosened up (speaker cones, membranes in headphones... What happens is that the circuits/material stabilizes after this maturing to get to a solid platform to produce sound on its best, as the designer initially intended it to. So Yes. Burn in is definitely for real and the phenomena pays off with an expanding of the initial compressed "soundscape". The sound opens up and blossoms. And You finally realized with a smile on Your face knowing that the money was definitely well spent. /Jan

You can tell yourself that if it makes you feel better about things, but you are wrong. @JanModig made some very good comments here, you can also do some simple research on this to find out more - it's all a part of the engineering. Burn in (especially in planar magnetic headphones) is most definitely a real thing. Some headphones are recommended to run noise through them for almost up to 100 hours before reaching their real sound signature (Dan Clark Audio sets for example). I own several pairs of headphones, all which I bought with my own money and burn in most definitely makes a difference. The GL2000 sounded a lot more engaging after playing music on a block for 2 days, and they still sound fantastic to this day. Not saying that they ever sounded bad at all, they just improve after this. "Underwhelming sound" would never describe these headphones, they are fantastic.

*NOTE: This is for the Double Sided version only - post 48 hour burn in comments* Okay, here is my Not-Really-TLDR review follow up to my first impressions novel post before the Drop ends for anyone on the fence. All of my original statements in that post still pretty much hold true, but the GL2000 ages like a fine wine. So, the GL2000 definitely improves in sound after the 48 hour burn in recommended by the manufacturer. Since my initial post/review, the soundstage seems to of widened with the sound filling out more, I haven't had any fatigue or painful sibilance, and there seems to be a very slight thickening of bass rumble but its still a flat-ish bass response, though the bass is very responsive and plentiful - But don't expect any boosted sub-bass from this set. *It also sounds great on a hybrid tube amp (XDuoo TA-20) which adds oomph.* GL2000 has incredible imaging, technical ability, resolution and detail retrieval all up there with the Arya, while the vocal performance performs well above the GL2000's price point. The Arya still beats it out in overall soundstage (airy), sound depth/decay, and fullness to bass/lower mids... but it's a lot closer after the burn in and at times it's getting tough to differentiate. If you have not heard the Arya before and someone handed the GL2000 to you and told you it was one, you'd probably believe them - that is until you actually hear the Arya ;] As long as you are NOT a bass head, or a heavy listener of hardcore rap with repetitive and boring over accentuated sub bass beats talking about money and nice ladies, or someone who does not like detailed headphones... you will like this a lot. Turn on any Yosi Horikawa song, sit back and relax in total bliss. Hype or not, I spent my own money on this set as well as my Arya and while I'd love to justify the price difference... it is really hard to because this headset performs extremely well for its price and destroys headphones like the Monoprice M1570. I actually had my eye on this set before the hype so I'm glad it happened or else I might of missed this gem. Truly worth it, I'll be reaching for this a lot. Shout out to the real hero @zhugunic for making me and some others aware of where we could get this fast (sold out now though). Don't forget to join the growing discord and chill with other audio/gaming nerds like me, link in my profile! Here's bonus headphone p0rn, later and enjoy... I know I will !

What headphones would you recommend for those who are bass heads, love listening to rap, and like detailed headphones?

The Drop + Fostex TR-X00 Purplehearts that I have would be good for that, but they unfortunately don't make them anymore so unless you find second hand, but you could look into similar style Fostex headphones (Fostex TH-610 for example, but more $$) as they should have a similar sound profile but the purplehearts are known for their bass. E-MU Teak also have a pretty decent bass response while retaining some detail since they are similar headphones/drivers, albeit neither of these can give the detail that the GL2000 does. I hear good things about some of the Denon headphones too but I can't comment on much past the Purplehearts and E-Mu as they are all that I've personally heard/own. Meze Noir 99 classics (https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-meze-99-noir-closed-back-headphones) have A LOT of bass and are fun sounding for a decent price, they still have okay detail but no where near GL2000 levels. UN DIA (One Day) track has a ton of strong thick bass hits with the Meze, sounds girthy. They're honestly a really decent pair of headphones for $200, but not good if you have a very large head, they fit small.

Yea, I don't know about the single magnet but I own the double magnet GL2000 and compared against my Arya personally (I bought both with my own money) and the GL2000 is insanely impressive. It's also improving with burn in... they are worth their price tag 1000%. Hype or not, they are good headphones. Just don't buy them expecting them to cure cancer... you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for all the feedback. I ended selling my Ananda (to flat (no punch) for my ears) and my DT177x GO cans. I just bought the Arya from the Hifiman website, open-box for $1,299 no tax or ship cost. I don't expect them to cure cancer and I appreciate your opinions.

Taobao is expecting a restock(hopefully) on 27th January for Chinese customers. Gold Planar ships most of its inventory oversea due to the high demand of these headphones. Lots of customers in China can’t get their hand on these bad boy yet. People who are interested in buying from Taobao can check during that time.

I’m watching this show Night Stalkers with these headphones, It sounds and feels like I’m watching this in the movie theater. It’s such an amazing headphone, it does a stupid job at separating and has wonderful imaging. The sub base hits super strong and deep. I own a pair of 6XX and k7XX, both of those can never achieve the soundstage. It sounds intimate and very open at the same time. worth every penny. Zeos did not over exaggerate. Chifi is the new hifi, thank you Linsoul.

Yea I figured as much, I mean it's a good set (I do still like the M1570) and it nicer for the heavier stuff but GL2000 just better... GoldPlanar obviously kept the good planar drivers for themselves :o
