A drop for clicky switches fulfilling in July? I'm not sure what's worse, getting in on this because you like clickies or getting in on this because you want to wait 4 months for switches 🤷♂️
Ares78Drop is Drop but Kalih themselves had jumbled their info.
Data from the Kalih Official twitter:
Operating force: 30gf
Return force: 53gf
Pre-travel: 1.7mm
Total travel: 3.6mm
Spring length: 20mm
The click mechanism looks similar, if not identical to the Kalih Box White in the exploded view.
Other than the longer spring, I feel like the notable difference is in the sound where the White is your typical clicky switch while the Arctic Fox has cleaner but much higher pitched sound (more akin to a mouse click) imo. They have the sound comparison on the twitter.
My comment wasn’t about the clicky (I significantly prefer the clickbar style over the click-sleeve style) – I was referring to the description of using a medium-light 52g spring for “harder typers”. Gamers and touch-typists would go for the lighter weights (Arctic Fox, White, Pink, Glazed Green), and middle-of-the-road (Jade, Noble Yellow), but harder typers would be more inclined for heavier weights (Pale Blue, Navy, or spring swaps from Ancient Grey).
I normally don't like clickys but it would be great if Drop (or someone) could post a sound test video so users can have an idea of how the switch sound before buying.
Totally agree with you without hesitation. If you are solely buying switches based upon sound, then 99% of sound samples will have you losing your money outright.
For myself, it has always been the FEEL of the switch, that is paramount over all other considerations here.
Have already spent hundreds or even thousands listening to switch sounds, when all I have to be concerned about is how each switch design feels under my fingers when being used inside any Aluminium, Steel or Polycarbonate Keyboards.
I'm no Keyboard Professional, so my opinion might mean squat to most people here on DROP. Just too old to know what's worth buying and what's worth ignoring.
These switches are worth adding to any collection, because of their overall finish along the production chain.
gardeyThey have a slight deeper sound compared to ordinary BOX Whites.
Oh, shouldn't we all be avoiding using the Word "White" these days, due to Brandon's wokeness? Watch out DROP, or you'll be excoriated from the Net ; )
