Available in the US exclusively through Massdrop, the Kaweco AL Sport Explorer can otherwise only be found in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. It’s an olive green version of the most popular model from a brand long synonymous with classic, high-quality fountain pens Read More
No doubt this is a lot of cash for a Kaweco AL Sport. They’re known for inconsistent nibs too. I can’t get this shipped over seas for this price and I can’t find the “night” edition this cheap either. I also have some credit here and haven’t been willing to buy much else off the platform lately. At the same time if the drop fails I won’t be sad.
Special Editions typically come with an inflated price and limited runs, which help make them more collectible. If you are looking for a 55 dollars worth more of quality, that is dubious, but... if you want a pen as part of a collection, you weigh the value.
Errmm......as a Kaweco fan, why can't it be more like the Taiwanese version Lilac (limited edition) or the pink one for the anti cancer campaign (eons ago)??? This one looks like anaemic dog poo colour......😣
Shhh.... if you like the color buy it. If you don't, don't comment. I personally think it's kinda cool, so I ordered. I've got the AL Sport Deep Red and dig the pen. Fun pen, consistent writer, nice weight. Cool closed, even cooler posted.
For those new to Kaweco, the nib lines run broader than Japanese pens. Germany likes their lines thick, so order accordingly.
Is my monitor busted or does this look like more of a khaki color? Not that I'm complaining as I like that dark sandy brown color I'm seeing instead of what I normally think of as an olive green. I do know that European companies don't always describe colors the same way we do in US, but would love for someone to clarify this for me.
I'm with the below comment that, if you do not like the color don't buy it. I own a blue AL Sport, and it is by far my favorite and most used pen. It doesn't leak, writes great, and I carry it everywhere. I would not buy a teal or pink one, but I think the desert brown is pretty awesome, so to each their own. If you want a compact, reliable fountain pen, I highly recommend Kaweco.
