Based on knifemaker Matt Degnan’s custom MC design, the Kizer Guru is small enough to comfortably carry anywhere, but stout enough to take on most anything. The 3-inch S35VN blade—arguably the best commercial steel available—measures 3.5 millimeters thick for strength. Done in a modified sheepsfoot style, it’s easy to control and has a nice belly for uniform cutting. A choil at the base allows you to choke up and makes sharpening the blade easier. Looking at the profile, the Guru sports a single straight line along the spine for a balanced look. Rounding out the folder is a titanium frame lock and a right-handed tip-up clip to match.
Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process of powdered metallurgy known as CPM, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
