Product Description
The Massdrop ALT mechanical keyboard is just like the CTRL, but with 67 keys instead of 87. Absent of function keys, it wastes no space—but it still has a full set of arrows and numerals ... Read More

Hey Friends,
Very excited for the launch of the ALT to followup the CTRL launch. 65% keyboards have always been one of my favorite form factors. It allows me to take advantage of the smaller footprint on a compact keyboard and still give me to easily access the arrow cluster and navigation cluster which I use daily - from spreadsheets to video games.
The ALT will ship with the same features that made the CTRL awesome - the firmware will be based on QMK and we will be adding it to our keyboard configurator for easy reprogramming. The same RGB lighting and customization. The keyboard also has dual USB C connections that functions as an USB hub and the PCB will ship with Kaihua hotswap sockets to allow for easy switch swapping.
This keyboard is another step in our eventual goal to make custom keyboard design more accessible to the community. We will continue to work on this line and add more offerings in the future - for example a matching numpad - since there were a lot of request for those in the CTRL drop.
For community members, this simplifies the experience of owning a custom keyboard, for community designers, this solves the hardest parts of your technical back end. This solution for designers means more projects will make the leap from concept to production, increasing the diversity of designs available to the community at large.
Thanks for your interest and support, none of this would be possible without you and the continued support of the mech keys community at large.
Last, a few administrative notes on this drop: The drop is set to end on May 24th. However, we will be doing a payment capture on April 30 so we can initiate tooling for some of the components in the ALT.

Here are some custom keycaps that support the ALT https://drop.com/all-communities/drops/custom-keycap-collection People have been asking for Drop to sell the ALT, CTRL, and SHIFT keycaps by themselves. Maybe that will happen in the future

The likelihood of cracking keycaps is a lot less now after they revised the BOX switches, but if you want to use BOX switches, it's just a risk you're going to have to live with

It's purely just preference as I am use to it, but I will take a look into your suggestion. However since I'm buying it from CAD, shipping and currency conversion are going to take a toll, I would like to get my preference

Are there any plans in the future for creating Drops on keycap sets that will match the alt configuration. Taking into account that some of the traditional keys lie on rows that are not standard making heights odd and the 1.75 right shift.

It would be really cool, to make a revision that supports an HHKB Layout, I like my ~ and | where the Delete/Backspace key is... and also with additional cover plates with logos or nothing to either make it WKL! or HHKB like :)

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my alt stopping working "crashing" after being connected for a couple minutes. I own a MacPro and have it connected on the CalDigit ts3 dock using the keyboard's original cable. I really don't know how to fix this, but it's really annoying because it takes extra 10 minutes after re-plugged for the keyboard to start working again, sometimes even longer. So it slows me down a lot! It's becoming a real bummer to me.. At the beginning I thought the cause could be related to some software conflict but now I think it has something to do with the high temperature of the dock. Maybe this might be shutting down the keyboard! Has anyone experienced this issue? I need help

Try using usb 2.0 port or a different port. And switch from left and right USB-C ports on top of the keyboard. I noticed mine wouldn't work on the left side on MacOS but then again alot of stuff is scuffed with Apple products so I'd personally just use Windows or Linux Distro. Plenty out there you can replicate everything about MacOS

I just made a drag and drop cli application for flashing the firmware if anyone is interested. https://github.com/Cipherbunker/mdloader . This will make it so you no longer need to type in the commands manually. Only works on mac osx right now but I will make a linux version soon.

You would have to find a keycap set that has a 1.75U Shift in order to cover the massdrop alt. The rest of the keys are standard size. The right alt shouldn't be a problem, as it is standard size.

Thanks. The problem is that the rainbow keys are all shaded and colour matched. The chance of me finding a key to match the right colours seems impossible.

@YanboWu Are the Halo switches going to be available again for this drop? They are listed as an option but marked as (unavailable) on the checkout page. Mentioning again that a purchase option that does not include switches but DOES include keycaps would 100% get my money.
