Wanted to share a few things about what makes the T-X0 special to me: -Only a small amount available, this is a very limited run for Fostex. -Discontinued Mk II is the modder-favorite version. -A major manufacturer has done this much work in tuning based on community feedback

Starting with a rebooted T50RP Mk. II as the base product, Fostex worked for more than a year with Massdrop and the community to modify the sound.
This is the first modified production Fostex T50RP Mk. II.
Lots of laser-cut Fostex foam damping is behind the driver in small sections of the housing, Fostex-made new hybrid perforated pads are based on community requests, there are changes in filters behind and in front of the driver as well as an added gasket to the driver housing.
I’m very thankful to Fostex for all of the work and time they have put into making this headphone for us. A few of them are on their way out for review now…

Actually, a 6Db increase will translate into the Doubling of sound pressure, not 3Db. Otherwise great post.

lsrochaYeah, I mentioned 6dB as the doubling of sound pressure level in a reply to another user in this thread. I had left out the SPL relationship to decibel level in my first post because I was mostly just doing Google research and writing what I had found. In that second reply I posted more of what I had found. Apparently there are three different relationships to decibels as relates to sound: intensity, SPL, and perceived loudness (doubling at 3, 6, and 10 dB respectively), which seem to be what are driving most of the confusion between posts involving measurements and specs.

Has anyone else got the invitation letter from Massdrop? Massdrop is celebrating their anniversary and it says that they're having an all-new custom products and curated drops, plus giveaways, Massdrop swag (idk what that means), and other fun surprises, It's happening in June 19th-30th. I have a strong feeling that they're going to release the HD6XX again this Summer... and I am eager to buy a second pair... I'm debating if I should get this (T-X0) or just wait hoping that they will drop the HD6XX during the anniversary event...

You should try HE-6. HE500 is high value, but after you hear an adequately amped HE-6 you will never look back.

Hi Everyone! We’re excited to announce that all units of the Massdrop x Fostex T-X0 Planar Magnetic Headphones have arrived at the warehouse and have gone through quality control. All is good, massdrop support came in clutch even though there wasn’t any insurance on the drop. Zachary from support ia going full send and shipping me a spare.
edit- for everyone else that comes by this message: I sent support only 1 email(NOT the nagging kind) about my issue and was very prepared to BUY another headset even though there was a chance none were left over. I don’t ask for handouts, that’s not what we’re here for.

TacktMine were also I think stolen, or maybe mis-delivered. I wish they would've sent me another pair, but I got a refund instead. Better than nothing though, thanks Massdrop.
What bothers me the most, is that whoever has my headphones will probably plug them into their phone and think they're too quite or broken and just throw them away. Ugh.

Ok so I'm very nooby when it comes to audio-stuff and have a few questions about these Headphones;
1. Are these headphones made for like music/gaming or mainly for your phone?
2. If they are made for music/gaming, do I need an DAC/AMP to get out the most of these (I'm mostly listening through Spotify premium and don't have some special soundcard)
3. What does Planar Magnetics mean? (English isn't my native language if that seems like a stupid question)

Yea it's nice and close in sound to an Argon but a little more treble, little less mid bass, I am trying to figure out which pads are best between ZMF lambskin and Protein ovals.

With the LONG lead times (and getting longer by the day) of items on Massdrop WE (the customers) are basically making YOU (Massdrop) an interest free loan. How about charging WHEN the product ships (just like Amazon)? I find myself checking more and more on other web sites to see if I can get an item offered by Massdrop in order to avoid tying up MY money for months before I receive the goods.

Well, this is going to go well. 2 hours after the email was sent out over 2000 people have requested this (only 1900 units, remember?). The HD-6XX's 5000 units sold out almost immediately (and completely broke the website) without the threat "final run ever."
If you are reading this, your chances of getting one are very, very slim. Prepare to be frustrated on Monday.

yes now that i have them hooked up to an amp, considerably more bass and top end volume(as expected.) sounds pretty dang good i think.

I'm jealous of people that have already received their pair of T-X0's. I'm wondering, has any one in Australia received their pair yet? I'm still waiting for my pair to arrive but tracking from DHL, USPS and even Auspost don't match up with one another.

kl884347Did a session last night with Interstellar, geebus! I've always believed in the T50rp drivers but damn...this collaboration is wise and masterfully done! Able to connect to the music within an instant, even the very first track (Dreaming the crash) with nothing but outdoor sounds like thunder rolling through the image or the wind gusting over the corn field, the gentle instruments slowing being introduced to the image.....arghhh it's simple stunning! I'm getting great separation here with top shelf clarity.
Will check out "Rush" tonight.
