Let me start my saying I know little to nothing about headphones. But I just spent the last week researching what's right for me and I bought some Audio Technicas mx50s. If in just casually listening to music at home and occasionally plugging into a guitar amp to hear myself play which is better? It's only a 50$ upgrade. Someone let me know soon, much appreciated, because I might go return my mx50s even though I just bought a skin for them
Alan14601These are probably worth the extra $50 (though you can get the mx50s for cheaper usually); but i personally wouldn't do it considering you'd have to wait 6 months to get your new headphones.
These also have higher impedance , which may be better for your guitar amp; but worse for listening to music from most devices without an amp.
Alan14601The AT mx50's are a different kind of headphone. A fantastic headphone...but a different kind.
Watch the Keith Richards documentary, you'll see them using the Audio Technicas in the studio. The AT mx50 is a closed back headphone which blocks out sound, not the case with the HD6xx...they are open back and designed to mimic monitors to some degree, so sound leaks out of these...
If I were recording music I wouldn't use them, if i were listening critically, or for pure enjoyment in a quiet room, these are what you want.
If I were recording and needed headphones that didn't bleed into the track...the AT mx50's are a GREAT selection...and will also work for everyday cans.
GizzmotheGreatIf you realy are into music recording you should pick the m40x or m70x that have a much flatter sound signature. Or just watch some z reviews of the m50x
