Does these headphones need tube amps to be driven well?
Define "well" lol. I normal amp can drive these just fine. A tube amp will change the sound, but these do not "require" tube amps
IIRC People prefer the HD 600s with solid-state, and HD 650s with OTL Amps. People who own both have stated that they prefer the 650s to the 600s after using them with an OTL, even though their initial thoughts were that the 600s were all around better. I will be joining this drop (going to try for one of the first 50 orders) and I joined the most recent DarkVoice drop. The 6XXs are a recolour of the 650s with a, what seems to be at least, shittier cable. I will be swapping the cable for the original 650 cable for $30.
NOTE: Tube amps colour audio, which means it is preference. Even the sound signature between the 650s and 600s comes down to preference. Some people find the 650s too dark, others find the 600s too fatiguing.
I will make a post in the discussion boards regarding the 6XXs with both solid-state and OTL amplification, once everything arrives and I try it for some time.
The setup will be 6XXs with a 650 replacement cable, SMSL sAp ii / DarkVoice 336SE / SMSL SD 793-ii, Sanskrit 6th Gen, S/PDIF. For the time being the source is going to be Spotify (which is a high fidelity source), I'd also love to try it with a vinyl record player, however I don't own one at the moment and getting one right now would leave me with nothing to play on it. So I'll make a second post here eventually regarding HD 6XXs paired with an OTL amp and vinyl records later on.
Solid state works fine; though, you'll want a lot of power. My HD650's sound great out of my Valhalla 2 (tube) and Liquid Carbon (solid state).
Will an onkyo ha200 work well?
