Smooth Sound

I have a variety of solid-state and tube amps to enjoy, and I did like the ZDT Jr. Compared to the Little Dot MkII it is more refined and clearer. Compared to the Dark Voice 336SE it is smoother with a sweeter midrange, but the DV has great dynamics, especially with my Sennheiser HD6XX. Even though my ZDT Jr. is a later S/N and has the white dot, there is a very slight hum that is audible at higher volumes. Swapping out the stock 6ZH1P with my favorite Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV improved the soundstage and coherency a bit, but no where near the impact as experienced with my LD MkII and DV 336SE - I guess the stock Russian tubes are already quite good (or the amp doesn't respond to tube changes much). Overall an enjoyable amp but not my favorites for the HD6XX series.

Great value amp

I guess I was lucky with mine from the first batch it ran nice and quiet even with sensitive phones. I should point out that I never tested the stock front tubes as fitted JAN-GE 5654W in the first week. I use it mainly with HD800 Sdr modded headphones and feed it from the from the single ended side of the Chord Hugo TT DAC, the balanced side goes to a Sennheiser HDVA600, depending on the music and my mood I enjoy the differing presentation the tube and the solid state give me. I do tend to listen more to the tubes finding it compliments a wider range of music being slightly more relaxing yet still very precise. Other headphones that sound good and benefit from the ZDT Jr I have found are HD 600 and 6XX HD 700 and surprisingly to me the Focal Clears from the low z output. A bonus in this setup is it sits near to my powered desk speakers and the pass through works even when the amp is switched off

Sounds great, but the reliability is a bit disappointing.

For the price, there really is no tube amp that sounds nearly as good as this. But, I've had to return this product twice, once with humming issues and another where it spontaneously stopped working completely.

Great value amplifier

Great value amplifier. There were some issues with the noise (EMI) but now fixed. Also the support for the first revision noise problem solving was very good. Highly recommended.

Clean with plenty of power

This amp drives all my headphones perfectly. It's clean and has a ton of power. Though, I will say, I was hoping it had a little bit more "tubey" sound to it. It sounded mainly analytical and clean to my ear. If you want something that looks great on your desk and can power all of your headphones, then this is perfect. If you want a "tubey" sound, I would look at other options first.

Excellent value amp, make sure to match the impedance!

Great headphone amplifier for those looking to add a touch of sweetness to their music. Still overall tight but adds just an extra layer to the music to make the sound a bit more live. I would recommend using this with a headphone in the area of 80-600ohms with a dynamic driver. Look at ELEX, HD6xx, K7xx, HD58xx. Would also play well with HD800(s) and the likes. Highly recommend using a quality source DAC and quality music files for best results. Helluva amp for the money.

Beautiful sounding amp!

I'm not sure what the one star review is about. Drop has the best customer service I have experienced anywhere. I have full faith ordering from this site; Drop fully stands behind the products they sell. It's easy to tell their main goal is happy customers. Any issue I have ever had has been handled concisely, professionally and they have been fully accommodating. Now about the amp, this was exactly what I was hoping for in tube headphone amp. A nice quiet background, and clean rich harmonics from the tubes. And power to drive almost any set of headphones. Coming from a jds atom amp this sounds SO much better to me personally. I am very happy with this purchase. I have 5 star military spec 5654w nos GE tubes on the way, but I dont see how they could sound any better than the stock nos vokshod rocket tubes. Time will tell. I have used the hd 6xx through this amp and the ether cx and both sound super amazing. I have a pair of lcdx on the way and am curious how those will sound on this. I will update when those arrive.

Looks like you ordered a product that was faulty or did not meet your expectations and were offered return/refund or partial compensation(they replace if they still have stock); as far as I can see. That is a pretty straightforward approach to a problem. Drop pays return shipping and the refund is instant. I have returned shoes and high end music gear that were faulty on major sites and not only had to pay return shipping, but also wait over two full weeks for a refund to post.

PrismaticOrbI'm very curious to hear your thoughts on the LCD-X pairing. I just got them on Thursday and love them through my Ragnarok but am feeling the itch to get a tube amp again and this one is high on the list. I bet this is great with the Focal Clears as well.

I would be surprised. I went to the site as soon as I saw received the email alert that they were selling these again. I noticed that it was only the 220V and held off from purchasing. Within about 10 to 15 minutes it was back to "out of stock" - likely far too quickly for most people to purchase (especially since it was only the non-US version listed). The new "Estimated Shipping date" though might be a clue that maybe these might be available soon. I think the guy that makes them is the same guy who started making the Shortest Way 51 which doesn't have the greatest distribution stream. I have a SW51+ and it is a great amp. Would be cool if they did put it on here.

Good eye. I also noticed they seem to say that they sold 399 of them. So maybe the Drop did go live, they sold those lickety split quick, and that was it for this Drop. That would seem to be a good sign that the demand is there for another Drop. ;)

what's interesting is the "Estimated Ship Date" is listed as August 1st, 2022. If I'm not mistaken, they haven't had this amp listed for Drop in at least 2 to 3 years.
