Unlike a lot of he people writing reviews, I knew exactly what I was buying here. The RUK is a perfect, non locking, razor knife. Great job, great craftsmanship. To all of those complaining "it doesn't lock", "It's just a a smaller utility knife"... Well yeah, learn to read next time and you won't have these types of problems.

iker42I mean, they literally tell you that it automatically retracts AND SHOW YOU PICTURES OF THE MECHANISM.

iker42The problem isn't that it automatically retracts, the problem is how hard it is to hold it open.

Must admit, I'm actually really liking this little thing. Definitely the best looking utility blade I've ever had. If I were Monday Morning Quarterbacking, there may be a few things that could possibly make the RUK a little better. Or, may just make it different. Either way, it performs as advertised and looks good doing it. Also really appreciate the opportunity to add another piece of functional copper to my pocket.

BflyingI picked up the regular gent in black g10. Recieved it yesterday and im liking it. Small and lw but packs a nice blade profile. Materials, f+f, centering, and action are all good. Love the blade shape! A guy in the comments makes custom scales, Joel Ellis from pointy precision on fb, and he just finished up a set of OD green micarta scales for my gent that are shipping out today. They look great in the pics and video he sent me and i cant wait to get them in hand! He is in Canada and makes them with a cnc. I got rh only for a clean show side. the exchange rate makes them very affordable at $31.57 US dollars shipped for my set! Nice guy and my new custom scale dude.

This is a well made fun toy for what it is, IMO a light duty box and envelope opener. Craftsmanship is really good. I am dinging one star as you have to remove tiny screws to replace the blade and they will get lost or worse strip out (it is a replaceable blade knife).
One thing, Excel brand blades are a couple thousands too big at the back edge of the blade and will not allow for full deployment of the knife.

I knew what i was getting when i ordered. A spring loaded, xacto blade knife. It has plenty of safety, but 99% percent is between your ears. Any tool has the capacity to hurt you so keep that in mind when using tools. It was not made to replace a full frame knife, but a quick cut here, open a box there is what it was designed for. They took a concept that is out there, made the design nicer to hold and with a material that will gain character over time due to tarnishing. Snap a blade, chip it or just gets dull. Take the time to change it, no sharpening needed. Just a few screw out and back in. Tedious yes, but so it sharpening a chip from an edge of a knife. Not sure if it will go on my keys or just an edc item in my pocket. But wherever it ends up, i know it will get plenty of use. You don't have to like, but I love mine so far. Awesome job goes out to Ferrum Forge

WTF
This dinky thing has shaken apart in my pocket multiple times, and I’ve had to put the screws back in it several times the past few months. Today the thing completely came apart in my pocket. I felt something jabbing me in the leg and when I pulled my keys out THE BLADE WAS LITERALLY DANGLING ALL OVER THE PLACE. I could have sliced my fingers up if I’d grabbed the keys differently. Thankfully all I have is a little hole in my jeans and some light scratches on my thigh. If you buy one of these, I recommend taking the screws out and using loctite, because wtf. I don’t even know if I can even reattach the spring inside now, and I have no clue where the screws are this time.

Absolutely useless Has no lock and is far too small to be safely held a massive downgrade from the $10 exacto knife I was planning on replacing with this

vannn"Measuring 2.6 inches long and weighing just 1.2 ounces, the RUK is compact and out of the way. It features a slim body made from your choice of copper or brass, both of which will develop a natural patina over time. The spring-loaded blade is designed to retract automatically and stay put safely inside the body. To access it, just slide the stainless steel button forward as far as you need." I copied directly from the description, i do not see how you were at all surprised by the mechanism or size.

First the pros: 1. Nice finish 2. Good looking 3. Good spring retention (though I would personally like a bit less tension) makes it feel like quality 4. Smooth deployment on the copper version 5. Well built and feel solid when picked up 6. Cheap replaceable blades
Now the cons: 1. No lock for blade deployment so it would retract when released. 2. Strong retention makes it hard for blade to be at full extension. 3. No lock limits the holding position to just one, the pinch grip with your thumb to the side, holding the screw. 4. Handle shape idea for thumb on spine and three finger on the body but usable because of con # 3. 5. I'm right handed but I can't imagine left handed users as using it on the left hand makes the cutting edge face up.
Neutrals: 1. For something so small, it does weight more than expected. The weight makes it feel like quality but feels too heavy for a key chain. 2. Torx screws. I like the look of them and I have tools to service the knife but others may differ.
Overall: As one user already mentioned, the failure of this little utility knife is it's inability to lock up. It makes for awkward holding position because of the strong spring. After multiple deployments, I'm starting to get the hang of it and is able to deploy the blade quickly and smoothly. As a right handed user, I'm able to use this to open amazon boxes. Lightweight tasks like cutting tape, small string, etc is fine. Cutting boxes is probably out of the question but perhaps the small X-acto inside is not meant for cutting cardboard though it can do the job.
It's a "meh" buy for me and I'll keep and use it as I do like it better than the other small utility cutters. I can EDC this and being that I live in NYC, it's friendly enough to not alarm people.

The main failure of this utility knife is that the blade doesn’t lock in the open or closed positions. The blade doesn’t lock open making it awkward to use because you have to try and hold the blade out (against the action of the retracting spring) while cutting with it. This problem is made even worse because the button for extending the blade is on the side of the knife, instead of on the top opposite the blade, and any leverage you could get by having your thumb on the top of the knife while cutting is lost. Also, this arrangement makes it impossible to “whittle” with the knife. Conversely, I wouldn’t carry this in my pocket and risk the spring-loaded blade accidentally extending and cutting me if I rubbed against something or drew something across my pocket. The Torx style screws for disassembling the knife to change out the X-Acto type utility blade are tiny and will, for most of us, require purchasing a special driver. For me the small satin bag accompanying the knife for storage is useless—I was looking for a small utility knife I could carry in my pocket for daily use. I would definitely NOT recommend this knife--VERY poor design--VERY little thought given to actual usage.

TimFin555I think you missed the point of this knife. It's not to be used for whittling or extended cutting, it's to be in your pocket so you can open boxes or letters or packages. In those uses a lock would only slow you down and make the thing bigger and more complex. It's not that there was no thought put into the design, it's that not enough thought was put into it before you bought it. All the info about it was in the description

Pass on this one.
It's great. Until you swap the blade, then you find steel screws in brass threads. Not a great design decision. For the price I expected threaded steel inserts. The experience was terribly disappointing because I used this tool on a daily basis, until I changed the blade and stripped the threads with light torque. Ridiculous flaw for the price. Do not buy.

A bit dinky AND dangerous
Weeks after receiving it, screws loosened and it disassembled in my pocket. Not very pleasant finding a sharp blade when you reach for your keys in pocket. as far from EDC I can imagine. Hoping for refund.
