Product Description
The president of Noble Audio and an audiologist by training, Dr. John Moulton has been delighting the community with beautiful, great-sounding in-ear monitors for years. So much so, in fact, that fans have nicknamed him the Wizard—so when we wanted our own bit of magic, we knew where to turn Read More
We are having trouble sending the email update so posting a quick update here! The quick summary is everything is still on track. We’ve received some images from Noble that we are super excited to share with the community as this is a cool sneak peek into the production process. A big thanks to the team at Noble for their hard work!
We'll send out the email once everything is set (should be this weekend). While we wait, how about some eye candy?
An update for everyone!
In the interest of time, Noble is shipping the IEMs directly from their Southern California facility. When products are shipped directly from the manufacturer, Massdrop makes all of the labels and then sends them to our partner to apply to each package. This is why some of you have received notification that the labels were created.
All orders will be shipped out before the end of this week.
We appreciate your excitement and wanting to receive these as quickly as possible.
Thanks for sharing this pic, Richard. Those are some gorgeous beauties taking a shower, I suppose. LoL.
Please do share more photos, if you've received any from Noble Audio. Thanks again!
Hey Everyone,
IEMs are one of the most important product categories in the Audio space, but there’s always been a huge gap between affordable and premium units (performance, design, build quality, etc). In an effort to make premium IEMs accessible, we spoke with several possible partners about an IEM collaboration earlier this year.
Through those discussions, we found that Brannan and John at Noble Audio best understood our intentions. Over the past few months we’ve worked with the team at Noble to produce the X, a premium IEM (made in the USA, proprietary BA drivers, CNC’d aluminum faceplates) tuned for the masses with a price to match.
The sound signature is a mixture of fun and clarity, seeking a balance between styles for the breadth of the community.
If you have other questions, I’ll be by to answer them.
Thank you for your interest in this drop! These products wouldn’t be possible without the support of enthusiasts like you.
CEE_TEEHello Everyone,
In case you are wondering, a 2-pin to 3.5mm cable is included with every purchase. We will add the 3.5mm cable to the "What's Included" section of the drop page.
Still trying to get more details on the Lightning Cable, but did learn that the materials and design of the cable make it difficult to add a microphone and controls. So for this launch, the lightning cable will not have a microphone or controls. (There may be a Lightning Microphone Cable in the future.)
Thank you so much for your support of this drop! We are really happy to be able to bring this to you...
CEE_TEEUPDATE on Lightning Cable from Brannan Mason of Noble:
"For all of those asking about our Lightning cable, we are pleased to be able to offer this option while still utilizing our black Noble cable material that so many enjoy. There's no mic/controls on the cable as the cable composition of our black cable (quad-braid, SPC) does not lend itself to this kind of componentry (volume is controlled at the device level). As for the presence of a DAC, we are working with our manufacturer to provide the most accurate information possible and will circle back once we have all the details. That being said, we have tested the cable extensively across various Apple devices running different versions of iOS and can confirm it works and sounds great.
The cable will be available for purchase directly via our website as well so that all Noble customers can enjoy their IEMs/CIEMs with the latest Apple devices."
It's finally March. Seems like ages ago that I placed my order but it sounds like we're down to the last few weeks. Good things are worth waiting for but man am I getting anxious!
Hey, I dont want to make a bad impression of this amazing IEM for the price, reviews have mainly been pretty positive, but there's been also been some mixed feelings that I have felt, some impressed, some neutral(pretty good for the price) and a few negative(not worth for the price).
Overall, if youre looking for a earphone that would blow you away, it depends on what kind of earphones you've used before.
If you came from earbuds, sure, these would blow you away.
If you came from those $30-$70 range of earphones, the noble x's would mainly blow you away.
But if you came from excellent budget offerings, or mid-fi($200 and above), you probably wouldn't be blown away at the first listen.
Why? The noble x's aren't as clear sounding as many high end stuff.
Lets take a look at the hd 800s vs hd 650 comparison to explain this .
HD 800S
First listen to the 800s, you're just blown away. Whether you like the 800s sound sig or not, you will be blown away. Resolution is simply top-notch, soundstage is insane, every little tiny detail in a track, you hear it all. The reason the hd800s can be sennheiser's flagship offering is simply because they manage to give detail in the way that wouldn't kill your ears. Best dynamic driver headphone available I dare say. They arent as piercing as a hd 800 that requires a tube amp to smoothen the out the treble peaks. They take every little issue with the hd 800 and fix it.
A cheap way to experience hd800s sound is the phillips shp9500(VERY HIGHLY RATED at only $70-$80) , very similar sounding but a slightly more grainy sound, not as refined, smooth when compared to hd 800s. Of course the price of a hd800s can buy more than 20 phillips shp9500...
HD 650
Enter the 650. A headphone with insane reviews, even more highly rated than the 800s on head-fi.
First listen, you really aren't blown away. It doesn't offer effortless detail like the 800s, soundstage is well, laughable when compared to the 800s.
But why then do people like the 650? After listening for about an hour, I began to understand. The way the 650 excels in is not technicalities, it is the emotion that it depicts. You hear the warmth of vocals, enough details to accompany the music, and yet it just sounds so effortless, so wonderful. Emotion is portrayed insanely well on the 650, something that technical headphones can never do as well.
So, if you're the kind of guy that likes a technical sounding signature, the hd800s sound sig is perfect for you, and the noble x's will sound absolutely disgusting to you.
But, if you like a more musical sounding signature, a signature that reveals the emotion in the music very well, the warmth of the noble x's would probably be amazing for you. (Note: I am not saying the noble x's will have a very similar sound signature as the hd650, I am implying that its signature leans more towards the hd650 sound sig.)
Excellent budget options also exist, and if the noble x's price range puts you off a little, there are also many other IEMS around that offer similar signatures.
kudos to massdrop and noble for making the noble x drop a success!
Cheers!

Scarce97Great point! To support your explanation about technical vs emotional ones, I have recently purchased LZ A4 (195 USD current price) and Magaosi K3 Pro (115 USD current). LZ A4 and K3 Pros are similar at details and on many things I think (These are my initial impressions, not so long listening yet, they are at the beginning of burn in period) but sound of K3 Pro came me more fluent, more emotional and warmer. LZ A4 is more technical for my ears.
I apologize for the late respond!!!
I appreciate it a lot for sharing your valuable information with me! It helped me a lot and cleared a lot of things out of the way (I even took a screenshot). About the dual mono, I understand what you're telling me, but is it possible or is there any products out there that has more than two installed? So does having more means better then?
Sadly, I'm not a craftsmanship like you are. I was planning to mod my Beyerdynamic and Fostex one day and I found some sites that does detachable cable moding. I had many chances of getting the Jotunheim this year, but I ended up needing the money for something else. I'm still planning to get one, but for now I'm currently saving it for Opus #1.
Once again, thank you.
I hope I get to ask you more in the future about this kinds of things.
Keep in touch!
KITTYThere are devices that have more DACs, but not really for two channel audio. Most likely you would only find more DACs in a discreet multi-channel pre-amp for home theater is all I can think of. Either way, you don't really need more than the dual mono since it helps keep the two channels of audio completely isolated from one another which is the main benefit from the Balanced audio outputs on the Jotunheim if you use that kind of connector. Most likely it means having to either buy or make your own cables since not many headphones come with that type of connector. Always here to help Kitty!
