If you’ve never heard of Bob Terzuola, you’ve more than likely seen his contributions to the knife industry over the last four decades. After all, he invented the tactical folder and he wrote a book, The Tactical Folding Knife, to share his techniques with peers Read More
Hi everyone,
We’re checking in with an update on the Massdrop x Terzuola Compact Tactical Folder. We’re glad to announce that the knives have arrived at our warehouse, undergone quality control checks and shipping has begun a few days earlier than expected. If you have not already received your tracking information, you should be receiving it very soon.
A few other points we wanted to touch on for this drop:
-During the production process, the decision was made to remove the “Terzuola” engraving on the knife to give the blade a cleaner appearance. We apologize for not communicating this sooner, but hope that you'll find the final version to be even more sleek and appealing.
Here are a few images of the blade in its final form:

-We also wanted to give an update on the Q&A. It is being finalized as we speak and will be coming your way in the next few days. Our apologies for the delay in getting it to you, but we did want to ensure you that it is on its way.
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to you receiving your Massdrop x Terzuola Compact Tactical Folder soon.
I got lucky before, so I guess it's a chance thing. I always anticipate on having to pay tax when I order something from outside the EU, it softens the blow... but still sucks. The knife really is pretty good, I do like it. Overall, excellent EDC knife. Only the hardware is darker than I would have liked and the edges on the G10 are pretty sharp.
With the tax, it is a bit too much for a G10 WE knife, but it's a chance I took.
Hey everyone,
It has been an honor and a pleasure working with the one-and-only Bob Terzuola. From the first time we discussed this idea during the USN Gathering, to meeting with WE Knife at SHOT Show, and visiting his new shop to shoot the video, a few things have really stood out to me:
1) Bob really enjoys sharing his passion for the craft, and all of the knowledge he’s gained over the years, with others. He literally wrote the book on tactical folding knives (which, if you’re lucky, you can find in good condition on eBay for $150-$200). I think his passion comes across in the video we filmed, and I am grateful to help share his story with a new audience that may not already know about him.
2) Bob is incredibly humble, given all his experience and accomplishments. He’s a living legend in the knifemaking world, but you’d never know it if you just ran into him on the street or at a knife show. He regularly collaborates with other makers, and though most people think of him as a teacher, he still considers himself a student in many regards. This open mindset, that there is always more to learn, keeps his designs current and with a focus on innovation - this guy is always thinking about what’s next, even though he has already pioneered some of the most important innovations in knife design - laser cutting of titanium blanks, ambidextrous one-hand thumb disc opener, double-detent slipjoints, the locking removable belt clip for sheaths, and many more.
3) Bob is open to learning new things, but uncompromising about quality. He was insistent about some key features of this collaboration - primarily, titanium liners, but also regarding some design refinements of the blade shape and grind. It is this uncompromising attention to detail that has gained him a dedicated following of people who gladly pay $1500 to $4500 for his custom knives (if you are lucky enough to have your name drawn in the lottery at a custom knife show - they are normally sold for 2 to 3 times that amount on the secondary market). Before signing off on the project, Bob looked at a number of other WE Knife models and met with both of our our teams. He personally inspected the prototypes, and made some key revisions which you see reflected on the page.
As for the knife itself, I love the CTF design for a few reasons. It’s smooth as butter to flip open - with the flipper tab, of course, but also with the thumb disc. I find on a lot of knives that the geometry of thumb stud and their location relative to the handle makes for awkward ergonomics; many are hard to open at all, let alone get open fully with a quick flick. It’s also pretty slim and lightweight for a Terzuola knife, which makes for a perfect EDC. Bob’s custom knives are stunning to see and to hold, but at $1500 to $3000 or more, I’d be a bit nervous carrying one around all day - you can be sure the CTF will be getting some regular use as part of my EDC rotation.

BenjaboolyWe sent the Ray Laconico email on June 20th, and Ray has already answered the questions. Can you email me your questions for Ray at avery.corley@massdrop.com? Chances are someone may have asked something similar, or I can see if Ray can write one more answer. Thanks!
$150 knife made in China? No thanks, grab a spyderco para 2 instead. You can talk about quality until you are blue in the face but if I'm paying premium prices, I want it to go to an employee in the states, not overseas. More money in their pockets means more money in my pockets eventually. I understand that this is a cool looking knife and a midtech made in USA is probably 500 bucks and a full custom much more than that. But it is just this kind of thinking: faster, newer, cheaper that created the trade deficit we face now. This used to not be the case with knives, where USA made knives were readily available. But in the last 5 years, there has been a surge away from the States because everyone has to have knives with crazy titanium handles with ball bearings. Anyways, long rant over, support local knife makers and companies.
bin31zI trust we knives quality and bobs decision on working with massdrop. I own all kinds of knives manufactured all over the world. Doesnt really matter where it comes from as long as bob gets the final say its his design/decision to allow this to happen. High quality for a decent price. USA is just more expensive to live in so Usa made knives will cost more. Just buy the knife and enjoy it. Buying a Usa made knife doesnt make you more patriotic or more American and wont help knife makers with huge taxes to pay off either. Pride vs reality folks.
Upon further review, I found that **"We Knife" is a Chinese knife manufacturer. Terzuola is not in control of these knives, so I opted out. I question whether a knife made in China would be considered a "collectible," even a Terzuola. Am I better off buying a Terzuola-inspired knife from a manufacturer that makes them here in the U.S.?
**Thank you for all of the replies below. I have done further research and all comments on website believe We Knives are legit, and that they feel they are a seriously high end company! I am back in.
Guys, look at this , from the Eric Ochs Orca Drop and now understand that this is what happened to our CTFs as well:

Oooh super shiny

Ah yes, less shiny, very nice tho

Huh what? Thumbstud is gray?

Oh and now it's gold/bronze again!

Hu oh, looks like someone failed to properly photoshop the thumbstud as there is a bit of gray metal still visible up there(bigger view here : https://i.imgur.com/1DXk1qW.jpg)

Bronze.?
Nah, bare metal! and notice both of these knives are designed "LOO1", same for the other "W001"

SO. This, right there, is false advertising. This is deception.
All of this has nothing to do with "email mistakes" "studio lighting" "miscommunication" or whatever LIES you served us until now.
We have a problem Massdrop. We have a problem JonasHeineman .
What is it?
Is it simply that Massdrop as a company is dishonest and we should except continuous lies and deceptions?
Are you, in all knowledge of the deception, promising us something that's better than our cash can actually afford just to lure us in and then serve us with lower end stuff and come at us with lousy LIES ?
Redirecting part of the cash into your and 2-3 of your cronies' pockets perhaps, which explains the lower-end/lower budget final product? :D
What is happening here? (This subtly starts to smell like a lawsuit) . *
Are Mr. Terzuola and Mr. Ochs aware of this? Did they give their approval to misrepresent their designs like this and potentially tarnish their names by associating with disloyal business techniques?
Massdrop CEO:
steve.elhage@massdrop.com
I can't figure out all the hate for the massdrop logo... The logo on this knife is even more subtle than some of their others. If you don't want a massdrop logo on your knife, don't buy a massdrop knife?
WayoftreadPersonally, I think massdrop is a mixture. They do sell some lame stuff, putting very little effort into descriptions or anything, but they also sell some really unique, cutting edge stuff. Keyboards, knives and audio are the areas where I feel they contribute with passion.
The massdrop staff who help develop those products are let down by their association with the crappy side of massdrop, in my opinion.
Yikes. Seems like MD has been having a rough go in collabo drops of late. I guess they all can't be homeruns :s.
Question though, I don't understand the calls of "Terzuola not being happy so his name is off the knife". His logo is still there so his name is still associated, is it not? Am I missing something?
The pivot one on the prepetua is because (at millits word) the knife was an attempt to make a TJ knife with a benchmade lock at a massive relative value, and they had to sacrifice custom pivots to keep it at that price.
BenjaboolyThat makes sense, and the Perpetua is a really good deal based on Millitt's reputation and the rest of the ensemble. I had only heard that there was a change and it sounded like a minor but still downgrade change.
@JonasHeineman It would be great to see a picture of this knife in (an average) hand. It’s an easy way to show perspective. The knife-in-hand photo is what sold me on the Crux.
NMathewsGood eye - no, this one is an early prototype with steel hardware. Production versions will have the complete set of anodized hardware as shown in the photos on the product page.
