Looking for a pair of in-ear monitors? We’re partnering with MEE Audio to offer an exclusive grab bag of goodies, featuring well-reviewed products that pack a punch for the price Read More
Whether you're in on this particular one or not, I think this is an example of exactly what you want to look for in an MD Blue Box.
Here's the way I look at it:
1. Everything in the drop is a good product (unlike, say, the entry Mee bluebox with the terrible Crystals mixed in with decent options)
2. The base option is at a meaningful discount (A 20% discount from the Amazon price at the time I'm writing this)
3. Everything meets the same general use case (unlike, say, the concurrent Spyderco Dragonfly knife blue box, which has EDC knives mixed with a 1/3 chance of getting a specialty saltwater use knife)
And if you look at the expected value math:
.75 x $99.99 = 74.99
.20 x $113.99 = 22.80
.05 x 199.99 = 10
Overall EV = $107.79
On top of that, every one of the bonus gifts is a legit prize. (not a spyderco case to be seen :))
I own the PX, and am very happy with it. It's kind of my IEM counterpart to my Beyer DT880, and I think it was a great deal at the $113 price. While this one doesn't make sense for me personally, If you're looking for IEMs under $100, this is one to consider.
I wish every Blue Box was structured like this one - I've been a little "meh" with MD lately, but hard to complain here. I hope it goes well so they have more like it.
@GunsOfBrixton Thanks for your comments here! I appreciate it. It takes some time to get Blue Boxes to work out in a way in which we can give you all a great value. The way in which you quantified the math is a helpful way to think of it. I was especially excited with this one.
There will certainly be more Blue Boxes on the way :).
Matt.TYeah, I know a lot of work goes into these - which I appreciate. I may not always be a cheerleader, but I think you guys just straight nailed it on this one. I can't imagine how you could have set it up better. I'll look forward to the next ones!
I am from dubai and i cant find good headphones here normally. I wish to join this drop but want to confirm.
When will i know which IEM is i am gonna get? Anyone has any idea. is it after drop time has ended or upon joining?
That sounds great i will visit them tommorow then. But they don't have P2 in their catalogue. While souq has it but for almost 100+usd. Samma3 do have m6 pro in good price. How are they compared to P2? Thanks
So what I'm reading is that we'll spend $80 and we'll get 1 of the 3 promised in ear monitors, then if we get enough people signed up, we'll get something extra?
KhaphoraYeah I agree it is confusing.
When you purchase, you should get 1 of the 3 MEE IEM.
To sweeten the pot they have added the prizes.
I suppose it would be ideal if the purchaser gets an IEM and if he or she wins the prize it will be IEM and the Prize.
But I did see some of the prize winners from other previous drop saying they only received the prize.
Came back out of curiosity to see how many of these ended up selling, and see that the drop was extended and the price was dropped to $70 - and still under 100 sold. I'm genuinely baffled.
Even though I own the PX, I'm actually really tempted at this price - but that's probably just my addiction speaking.
Got the p1s, pretty stoked, would have been happy with the p2s anyway :) Build quality is impressive, the weight to the driver is very noticeable. Having the spare cable is nice, but will just use chinese cables for daily driving.
I had the PX’s for a short time (they were a gift but me and the person I gave them to tested them out so I got a good listen) and I own the P1’s and I’ve listened to the P2’s when they came out for a bit with my own gear.(To get rid of any variables)
If you have a portable DAC/amp or a DAP with a good amp built in already, you’re best off with the PX’s. As good as sound as the P1’s but with a different cable. (Although I prefer the P1’s cable it’s not worth the price difference but in this drop if you happen to get the P1’s it’s awesome)
If you’re listening from your phone, and you don’t have an LG V30 the P2’s are the best option. Although their sound signature is slightly different And less neutral, it’s much easier to get good volume and sound from a phone than the P1’s/PX’s.
Overall this is my idea of a perfect IEM blue box. I think the only reason more aren’t going for this is because $80 is still a fair amount of money for IEM’s (to most people at least) and a lot of the people that find it worth it, already have the PX’s.
I might get a box just to have the P2’s for when I travel and don’t want to bring an amp and dac or dap just to listen to music. I already have a phone so any other devices is just extra space and things to keep track of. After all they take up way less space than a pair of headphones.
aramkI have not, however I have used the PX’s and P2’s on an iPhone 6s, the P2’s were a better listening experience due to the lack of power that the iPhone puts out. I would assume similar from MacBook Pro, most apple Products I’ve found benefit greatly from an external amp/dac although with the P2’s I think it would be pleasant listening experience. The P2’s have much less impedance so you’d be better off with the P2’s.
P2’s also have a bit more bass than the Px’s If you’re into that. Not overwhelming, just a tad more.
