Autumn is all about leaves turning and weather patterns changing—just like these Autumn Harvest Redux leather watch straps from Nick Mankey. The beauty of these straps is that they “pull-up,” which means they’ll crease and brighten wherever you bend them, a visible track record of your wear Read More
"Made from oil-dyed and waxed 4-ounce cowhide"
He really means 4 grams. This guy Nick Mankey is the worst! Do not buy these flimsy straps he makes. I was going to post a picture of my leather on my scale but my scale just broke. 4 grams though is what I got. The skinniest crap piece of leather I have ever gotten.
So I request a return, Nick sends me an email saying "Hi there, I appreciate your message. But it seems that you're a bit misinformed as to what "oz" mean in terms of leather. 3 oz of leather refers to the average thickness of the hide. 3 oz = 1.2 mm in thickness. It has nothing to do with weight. "
Yeah that is definitely false advertisement but I am apparently misinformed about what an ounce is.
An ounce = 28 grams
Nick says these are 4 ounces = 112 grams
I received 4 grams of leather
But I am somehow misinformed. YEAH BY HIS PRODUCT DESCRIPTION! DONOTBUY!
Frankly a bit afraid to engage with you but here goes. My name is Brad Baren’t. I have never met Nick Maney. I do think he is creative and I applaud anyone briniging creativity to this world. You said your piece. I appreciated the first comment. Instead of continuing to be negative, take that energy and bring a similar creativity to this world. You will certainly be happier and people will respond to you more positively.
I got one of the Ruler Watch Straps back in August of 2017.
Thinnest leather watch strap I have ever seen.
It did not make it a year before both studs ripped through the leather.
I really like the aesthetic, but I wish he would use some heavier duty leather.
Man I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your comment after the shilacking I just took for saying exactly that and explaining my purchase experience. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. And I appreciate the permission to have an opinion on a product that I paid for.
But at this point, you'll have to agree that it's a bit more than just an opinion. Others have expressed concerns about the durability of your straps in this thread. You say that you've never had any issues with the "structure" of your products, but didn't gaberade already describe how the studs ripped through his strap? In fact, you've acknowledged these problems by switching to a thicker leather.
Regarding your design choices: I appreciate that you've thought about these matters carefully. But your straps are subject to the same design constraints as leather nato bands. There are many nice leather natos sold at a similar price point; I would not describe any of them as flimsy. Are you not aware of comparable products that are already on the market?
I do admire the style of your bands, and I sincerely wish you success. I'm sure that your new and upgraded straps will appeal to many customers. For myself, I would not be interested in purchasing again from someone who thought it was OK to ship a product such as the one that I received.
I've got the Autumn Harvest on my Oris and a chestnut version of the regular Redux for one of my Seiko Turtles, and both are awesome. I've got a few of Nick's other straps kicking around, as well, they are versatile and super comfortable.
With this autumn harvest version the patina that develops is awesome. The one slight quibble I have is that on warmer days some of the dye may leave a smudge on your wrist, but that is not uncommon with leather straps.
Vintage1982BenzThanks for posting the pictures. Judging from the pictures the strap looks rather flimsy, can you comment on it? Also 2 previous customers said it's flimsy so I'm reconsidering joining the drop.
indoshindoI've had multiple straps by Nick for over a year and they've all held up just fine. This isn't a super thick piece of leather but in no way would I call it flimsy. It feels quality to me, no doubt.
Joe-cool28Interesting that Fortis hasn't gone down the same path as Glycine in embracing direct online sales, even with the financial difficulty that it had recently.
If they do, I'm in trouble though!
That's what I was thinking. I just received the watch today from amazon, looks great, but the band feels cheap. Doesn't really feel like leather despite the fact it is. And this one here looks quite attractive, and looks to be nice and soft.
spwathAll very true! I've never handled a leather quite as supple yet so rugged and dense as the Autumn Harvest from Acadia Leather. Makes for one super comfy strap though, that's for sure!
I guess I need a 24mm as well...lol hmm pics? Here ya go. Are they comfy? Yep! I think I have over 10 different versions of his straps. None have faultered still going strong!
VegaS10I've had several of his straps. The stud doesn't snag on things, and you can position it on the inside or outside of your wrist. I think a lot of people use two studs on theirs but I only use a single one and have liked them quite a bit, FWIW.
