I've been using this player for a couple of years now. After installing all of the firmware updates, it has performed flawlessly for me.
One big inaccuracy in the description, however: there is no way in heaven or hell this thing is going to give you 10 hours of playtime on 1 battery charge. More like 3 to 4 hours, at least if you're playing flacs.
Perhaps one of the most notable attributes of this player is its 2 SD card slots. I have a 400 GB card installed in one of them and it works beautifully.
Now I can only wait and hope that this player is offered at least one more time, because I will definitely pick one up as a backup to my current unit. It's that good.
This is a great sounding DAP, but based on my experience and reading others', The Bit do not respond to email or warranty requests anymore, they are basically closed down, so Drop need to provide a warranty
I use a LG V20 as a dedicated music player. What advantage would buying a dedicated player like this have? My music is all FLAC files of varying quality. I find the LG V20 drives all of my headphones fine. So not sure if I should just keep what I have or buy this.
If you are looking for a DAP, this is a great price for the sound you get. Lots of power to drive most headphones. If you don't mind short battery life and the finicky SD card slots. I have not experienced the software issues mentioned by other reviewers.
taki888 just curious, why are you returning the NW-A55? Been looking at that or the A45, seems like in this price range the options for a current DAP are limited. the #1 and the A45 (and even the A55) are essentially all models that are a few years old.
davidkhouYes, I agree with you on the limited options in this price range. For my own ears I find the a55 is too clean. I’m not sure why but it was hard to listen to. The a45 I would say warmer and easier to listen to vs. the a55.
I’ve decided to take the risk and go for the Opus #1 here on Drop. It also has a 10 band EQ vs. Sony 5 band EQ.
I don’t know why but both a45 and a55 requires creating a database every time you power up. A55 seemed to take even longer.
I love the Sony’s build and GUI. That I will miss but it really comes down to the sound.
I’ve been looking for that wider sound stage, better imaging DAP
but just can’t convince myself anything over $250.
If you are not too critical and looking for specific sound quality, the a45 is great for the price.
Hi. The short answer is no. When I plug in the Fiio it shows up as a separate memory device (so it shows up as if you have just plugged in an external hard drive). My suggestion: plug in the DAP (be it Fiio or some other); once showing, open ITunes (if it opens full screen decrease the size so you can see the Dap on the desktop); select the songs menu item in iTunes; then select, drag and drop. Enjoy!
This player is about 4 years old. Is it still worth considering or is it outdated at this point?
Also, player is sold without a case and by doing search on the web it's impossible to find a case for it. Something to consider too.
How is Android support, will we be able to get updates?
Nice DAP, but operating sotware has some errors. Music player hangs sometimes, doesn't like over 30 minuts files (i.e. concerts or classic music). Last software update was released in May. Used font is unreadable, please The Bit change it to Roboto.
Still plays very good.
Really want the metal premium version, but this deal just isn't good enough. They're available on amazon for $5 more ($445) and will still be there when my next paycheck arrives. MD made a good attempt, but not really helpful when it's time to buy.
Newbie here. So I'm guessing that this is like 10,000X better than listening to music on my iPhone? Am I downloading music from my iTunes library and such or specific websites? I did order theK7XX turbo charged cans and a DAC amp so would like a nice portable player to go with. Thanks
