This is one of those speakers that I can only bear to listen to for a short time before my ears feel fatigued. The high end is just too pronounced and often causes sibilance. I use a high quality DAC and lossless music, and it's still an issue. However, the size of the speakers is very nice for a desk, and the outside finishing feels high quality. I just wish they were tuned better.
Limited experience with computer speakers but definitely worlds better than the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks I had, especially when paired with a subwoofer.
I purchased these new (03/2019) and within two months the volume started cutting out at lower volumes. I've checked all wires and connections plus tried the speakers with my iMac, MacBook Pro, and iPhone and the problem persists. I hate throwing money away.
I bought these for my husband, and the sound definitely outperforms the price. The sound fills an office room even when not cranked up too loud, and no noise that I can hear. Both of us are really happy with the sound quality and build. The only issue with my shipment with Drop was that the speakers looked very visibly used, but that's Drop's issue and plays no factor to how I feel about the product itself.
I was looking for a really good-sounding, easy, compact, well-made, good-looking desktop speaker. These have done the trick.
I am more than familiar with PSB speakers, having listened to them many times over a very long time and I have a pair of PSB Imagine Ts.
I got the "matching" PSB Subseries 100 subwoofer. As a system, the Alpha PS1 + Subseries 100 combination has worked perfectly right out of the box. Simply using PSB's recommended settings on the Subseries 100 integrates everything nicely.
I wouldn't likely have got the Alpha PS1s at their regular retail price. But at the Drop price, that made the choice an easy one.
